Aye it's quite thin in places. Despite not having too much experience welding cars I know all too well that the small holes soon turn themselves into massive ones haha.

Ok thanks. I thought the zintec was supposed to be good for welding? As it's not properly galvanized or something. Anyway I think I will use plain mild steel, I have plenty 3mm hot rolled sheet as well. Here is a couple of photos of the rot. Unless there's something different that I've never tried I'd say zintec isn't good for welding. Maybe not as bad as true, thick galv but still not nice, even welding thinly zinc plated bolts you can tell the difference!
And it'd still be pointless. For reasons I don't fully understand when you weld a piece of metal where the weld is will always rust first so that's where corrosion protection ought to be best, but after welding there's no zinc left so it'd be no help on the most vulnerable areas.

You're going to be kept quite busy welding that up I fear, rather you than me...

Well I got there in the end but I did end up buying myself a Migatronic 231 as my mates little SIP migmate was just horrendous to use! The welds aren't pretty but good enough for the purpose.

It sure does. Got a little repair to do on the gearbox cross member then that should be the welding finished.

Thanks. I've sprayed a quick coat of primer on it for the time being but I do have some bilt hamber zinc rich primer too. Then some chassis black I think.

Yep. Rust converter first, although it's probably a little too late for that. Then wax probably. Might leave the wax so it's not a messy job next time I have to weld it.
