Mk 7.5 Fiesta Locking wheel nut key catastrophe

Hi All,

I've had something of a minor disaster today after having a couple of tyres fitted. I've retorqued all the wheel nuts on the wife's 2017 Fiesta and managed to leave the key on one of the wheels. She's since been shopping so unsurprisingly I no longer have the key

Now, I'm in no urgent need of removing any wheels so what next?

Obviously, I have a MIG so could easily remove the locking nuts, but before I do that, is there a simple (and I mean inexpensive!) way of identifying which key I need and acquiring one?

If it was supplied with the car new, then your local Found On Road Dead, dealer should be able to tell you the locking nut you need.
VW and a few others keep a record.

Cheers @Dozzer I did wonder if they might, though no doubt they'll want to free me of many pounds for the pleasure!

If you have the original manual and paperwork there should be a car with the key code written on it.

Have you tried looking for it? Probably wouldn't stay on long, might be just a short walk up the road...

I got a replacement from a site on the net. You send a photo of the nut and they send the right key. Cost a bit but probably cheaper than the dealer..

I went through exactly the same thing Just last Thursday. Key mullered by the monkeys at a tyre fitting chain. Went to main Ford dealer, registration in hand, VIN number, the works. 'Sorry we can't get you a key, but we can sell you a new set'. That was 77 quid. That left the original nuts still on, with no key. We sell locking wheel nut removers, But I didn't have time to do it. Phoned a local place to me. Another 30 quid, Per wheel!! Then I could finally get the wheel changed. That's a 2016 ford fiesta.

If you've got the manual or any paperwork, sometimes the key code is there, which could save you a lot of hassle. If not, there's the option of sending a photo of the locking nut to one of those online sites – it’ll probably be cheaper than going to the dealer. Alternatively, if you don’t mind a little DIY, a locking nut remover might be the quickest (but a bit messier) route.

I'd remove the locking key by diy methods and replace with standard wheel nuts. Alloy wheel thefts just aren't what they used to be and unless you have ultra desirable wheels you probably don't need to lock them

I had my Sorento booked in for new tyres yesterday and in preparation put the wheel nut key away safe. You can guess the rest

Strange how cars don’t come with a spare wheel nut key, always just the one.

A friend sheared off the locking key on his 2008 but new to him Nissan, he got a replacement from Nissan for about £22. An Ebay seller wanted £29 and a picture. After we sheared of the new key we had to resort to drilling them off as migging them off wasn't working. It was surprisingly easy. The remaining nuts needed a scaffolding bar on the T bar to remove due I think to corrosion build up between the hubs and the alloy wheels.
These were wheel bolts rather than nuts.

The Ford dealer will tell what key you need or as said above, one of the online dealers will tell you from a picture.

Surprisingly, they can't (or won't). I've just spoken to my two local franchises and Chiipenham say they aren't big enough and Swindon say they can't.

Oh yes, first thing I did, but the first mile of her journey has proven fruitless.

Absolutely, as I have done with my Jag. Just hadn't got round to it on this one yet
