All fair, but still "far superior" is nonsense. More versatile, yes, sometimes stronger, yes, better for welding round corners, good in hostile environments, yes, cheap when you only need 5kg of an exotic, yes.yes can be superior due to its simplicity for site welding
still the preffered weapon for high strength
critical welding of high yield steel offshore
filarc 88s the go to electrode
AH heres the catch most of the newbie /wannabe operators cant use them. i see the results regulary and usualy end up with an arc air torch in hand. singing , Rip it out and start again (Orange Juice )
in certain circumstances

But fast in a production environment when volume, strength and speed are required, at the same time with an ability to do consistent welds over a variety of materials and positions (especially with the right power source) not so much... Everything in its place.
Oh how much I miss you @Drains
You've not lived if you've not turned up to site and find you have forgotten the rod holder, but, oh.... have a spare earth clamp.
Rod held in the earth clamp. glove on, and off you go.
Done that before many times.Yep done that, used a mole grip clamping a cable and electrode together to get the job done, cant let minor inconveniences like having no kit stop you.
Done that before many times.
It’s very entertaining 6 hours into a night shift and you lay the mole grips down on the grounded platform
Me neither mate.Or the nice little tingle you get when you pick it up forgetting that you are sitting in a puddle,
Do I miss it?.
Not one bit.
Well, my friend, you selectively (and non-contextually) quote yourself! What you wrote was "Fact is, MMA is far superior and indeed the only way to weld in certain circumstances."With respect sir, you are mis-quoting me. Indeed, if you are going to quote me, or anyone else for that matter, please do not do it so the words are taken out of context. You have conveniently omitted a few words from my sentence. Here, I will highlight them for you:
Your answer is purely combative.
