If its anything like older Fords, that bolt will be welded to the bulkhead, so its ultimately acting as a stud. Shouldn't have any spinny spinny problems getting the nut off*
*unless Ford decided the 0.1p worth of weld holding the bolt in place cost too much and they've cheaped out

Difficult to tell from my video clip above. Maybe the hint of the weld on the RHS that hasn't adhered to the actual bolt?

My money tbh is on an interference fit for these.

All loose, air filter off to access the bleed screw Just found another bracket under the dash I've got to remove before I can withdraw the clutch pedal assembly...I think.

I feel somewhat better now. The black ends of the bolts are just round and pointed, no hex, no flats etc. Why do that to the ends, for what purpose?

Is it so you can get moles on them when the gits start to spin?

If it's going through a few layers (perhaps of sound deadening for one) and expected to line up with something from the other side of a panel, it'll be so it can self-centre. My seat mount bolts are similar (without the point) because they go down through the carpet and sound insulation and into a captive nut on the floor. Having a narrow bit of unthreaded area helps them to line up with the hole.

Through that piddly square hole in the dash lies the elusive "3rd bolt" discussed on Ford forums. 22" from the red ratchet to the nut!

Oddly the assembly went back in easier than it came out...

At least its the clutch. My citroen van has a brake pedal made completely from plastic. I can foresee one day after using the wrong cleaning product on the interior that it just snaps off when I stamp on the brake.

Looks like a similar job to changing the clutch master on our Combo van, what a pos. I reckon they built the car around it

The mk4 mondeo is a underrated car. As good as any car you'll get and parts are cheap. The amount of people that say no id never drive a ford but have never owned one and drive about in overrated heaps of German crap that costs a fortune to buy and maintain.

Tbh though I reckon my 2.0 blacktop Zetec Focus was quicker.

I got a code when I plugged an OBD2 in that might be a pointer to the issue.

Why FFS do you have to take the whole headlight unit out for instance just to change a bulb!!!

I see what your saying but its not too bad, if I remember correctly is it 2 screws and then a wiggling match. Try putting an indicator bulb in a bubble butt megane to you see what difficult is. If you haven't the room to maneuver your hand then its a handling. I remember taking out the battery etc to get your hand in behind to get at the bulb.
The amount of headlight failures on bulbs jammed in crooked is crazy.

One hiccup...car was fine this morning. Got back to it in the station car park and the instrument cluster was dead. No speedo, rev counter etc, indicators worked but didn't go click, click. No fuel gauge either.

Drove home very gingerly.

Was my fault, though I'd pushed the cluster connector in I hadn't "locked" it via the little rotating lever.
