Partly depends what you want it to look like. My old bike, I wipe everywhere with waxoyl once every couple years-ish. It genuinely does go a bit mouldy as whatever bugs that can live on the hydrocarbons in the product and colonise it do their thing. No corrosion, but not the look everyone is going to aspire to. Lighter, thinner, more delicate but more invisible coatings will be less resilient.

If you want clean, shiny and preserved, no coatings and a controlled atmosphere is the aspiration.

Sudden change in air temperature causes cold hard metal things to bloom with condensation immediately. My trike did it last week, when the air temp went from 2° to 14° in literally a couple of hours. It suddenly had a layer of wetness all over it, and bare metal rusted for the first time since I started the project 3 years ago.

The only real way to prevent this condensation is to remove/ control the humidity.

A mains powered dehumidifier piped to drip outside is the best long term solution although sore on leccy

Or a cover with a couple of quality desiccant dryers below would help.

I don’t think I have that particular problem- but my bike is somewhat dilapidated after 23 years of all year round use and only washed 3 or 4 times so I probably wouldn’t notice.
It’s been covered in cobwebs for a couple of months now- left it outside in storm (whatever this one was called) and put it back in the garage this morning as if it’s been pressure washed.

the xcp certainly looks good as rust prohibitor , but what about salt on ali ? which is what this thread was about

It's not a massive amount of electric used. What's the cost of damage caused if not used?

Workshop is 15x8m with 5m ceiling.

A timber shed is best if your not going to insulate it
