Nice. Cast alloy swingarm is another big clue compared to the snapped in half thing.

Even that feature can vary though, there are a number of 640 variants like enduro spec, adventure, supermoto etc. (as you well know!). KTMs are bitsas almost by definition...

Tell about it,
KTM are one of the worst for chopping and changing with no recourse,
I bought my 640 as an Enduro,
Only to be told by a well know motorcycle dealer in the South West, that it was a Supermoto,
After plenty of web searching, it is an Enduro
Quite capable bikes, if a little heavy.
I am surprised what it will climb up

Respectfully disagree. They are not mainstream, mass produced, soulless Japanese machines. They demand a higher level of maintenance if you want to enjoy the superior engine performance. They are also equipped with top spec suspension components and ancillaries right out of the crate.

Depends what you're after in a motorcycle. Reliable everyday commuter or race derived funbike for the weekend. If someone says DR400/have both, I think I might have to shoot them.

What does he need? Bizarrely, I might just have some spares (I used to work at a supermoto shop, just up the road from Bracknells as it happens).

I have a ton of bodywork panels and a box of engine somewhere. The FS650 was easily the most mind bendingly mental machine I have ridden. Happy days...

Not, it has one but iirc, bugger all oil capacity - less than a litre!!

Frequent oil changes are essential. I mean like, every few hours. Might sound excessive but only if you never spent an hour trying to hang onto one.

my ktm duke was a great fun reliable bike albeit with the worst head light Iv ever used

the husabergs had shocking oil levels

I think they ran counters in the Engine to help slop the limited oil about I can’t remember all the details my ex boss had one, silly short service intervals

The guys that designed that engine used the CR500 (two stroke) bottom end as their inspiration. They effectively shrink wrapped the engine cases around a four stroke top end. That bike has less meat on it than a vegan bean soup.

You should have asked for a go (if anyone could start it), it was like riding a rocket propelled bicycle and not a Colin Furze special either. More like a highly specialised lightweight bicycle with a sidewinder booster. It was an animal.

True story. One of our customers had his bike nicked. Thief got about 50 yards up the road before he lost it, broke his arm, ended up in hospital. Then when it was recovered to our shop, the huge South African owner casually mentions as he was leaving "Ya. I know where they took'im".
