Try Component shop if you want to DIY they specialise in RC modelling bits including a good selection of lightweight motors, I can’t get their website to work but this is their eBay shop. I’ve dealt with them a few times friendly and helpful.

Been a long time since I did any carp fishing but I use multipliers regularly.
The modern ones with the magnetic brakes and micro-tolerance spool clearances are a joy to use. Plenty of them are designed to cast one-handed.
I've seen plenty of carp anglers with multipliers as well although that mainly seems to be the ones after the massive carp in the French lakes and maybe they are actually targeting catfish?

For a starting point, could you get hold of a small multiplier and 3d print some sort of attachment that clicks onto the side of it.
So, cast out one-handed then click on a housing that contains a motor and a 2-pronged fork that sits over the handle.
Umbilical to a belt mounted battery.
If you salvaged the guts from a cordless drill you could use the trigger for speed control.
Or, just set the drag on the multiplier and start winding.
That's how we sea fish a lot of the time, once a fish is hooked you let the rod action and the drag fight the fish and just keep winding at a set speed to recover line when you can.

The more modern ones have very clever brakes on the spool that stop the birds nesting when casting.
Being able to use them one handed makes them easier than a fixed spool.
I suppose I am used to them now but last time I took a fixed spool reel Boat fishing to have a go at some mackerel i found it a lot more cumbersome than the multi.
For what the op wants, a multiplier can have the handle a lot closer to the center of the rod so for balance and mounting a motor I would think it would be a better option?
Although the offset of a fixed spool handle might give more room for a motor mount?

Or, how about a fly fishing style reel?
I wonder if you could find a suitable cylindrical motor to mount inside the center of a spool?

If you're thinking battery drills, and a fixed spool reel, I wonder if you could mount the motor on a belt and use a flexi drive to connect it to the back end of the reel, there'd be virtually no added weight to the rod.

That's a good idea. You could test that easily using something like a Dremel flex.
Just stick one end in a drill chuck and put the drill in a belt holster (or use the existing belt clip).
Find a bit of hex/square bar to replace whatever size the reel handle uses and turn the end down to fit the flex chuck.

I am sure all these things would work to a degree but are bigger than I anticipated..
I was hoping for something from an RC rock crawler or similar.

The links that are broken show the exact thing I am after.
I tried to trace the supplier a while back but kept coming up with broken links so it's not a temp thing I guess.

I would be willing to shell out 60 quid for a second hand multiplier as referenced by @Lazurus to see if she could get on with it. But I can't find it...lol

I am open to anything but remote battery is not really convenient.
But yes using the drag and recovering as and when is my first port of call.

Ok so it would be nice to give line with a reverse button but I think that's over thinking just now.
