12v is very low & underlines what I said previously about 3 phase machines & weldingartisan's comments about his 320amp Eland machine performing better on thin sheet than his single phase Transmig 110.

Couldn't tell you mate. Theres not that much detail and I doubt Mr Butters is about to fill us in! All I know is that while moving the active torch to and from the work the amps varied from maybe 80 at about an inch and a half away to 200and something when close up, regardless of the voltage setting.
I suppose if you do the amps times volts on that it seems reasonable - 12vX80A is 960W, which is bugger all. With the torch in the correct working position it's still only about 2Kw or so. But go up to 42V x say 250, you're above 10kw, which is quite a bit.
This was running 0.8 mm wire btw. I imagine these low settings are for running ally.
Interestingly, the power supply does say "voltage" on the settings, and the wire feeder has "current" under the feed speed knob, rather than the inches/min you might expect.
I must stress again this was all very unscientific. I needed a laboratory assistant to help me and the only person around was an 86 year old who would have taken ages to read off the dials while I was welding. I was squirting the torch round a corner, and had no shielding gas on!

Going off Murex's specs on their website the 140 model has a higher OCV than the 251?! In which case the 251 fabrication machine would be better on thin sheet than the thin-sheet machine?!! That's relying on no typing errors on Murex's part, cause it does say that the Tradesmig 140 has a duty cycle of 540 amps @ 60%!!
