Might I suggest that you use a knurled feed roll with a pressure roll on top.We have done extensive tests with both solid wire and cored wire,the knurned roll comes out best

That is good to know. Going to look in Boc tomorrow but if they don't have them, then I've seen one on ebay, and picking the knurled type will mean I don't have to duplicate one groove of the roller with that which I already have, as the knurled type have different size options.

The fan was very cruddy and didn't rotate smoothly, the bearings feel good but perhaps the brushes are gonners, I will check the fuse though. Thanks

I've finally sussed it guys, its an Esab LAG 400.
Matches exactly, though possibly the miller equivalent given it used to be blue not yellow. Bit peeved that I have painted it Red now.

I've got one of them, They are a good simple solid machine
Get the yellow paint out
