Agree on all points. The reason I am on this forum is, (idiots) like me, we learn the rules and then we break them. in all modesty .....If you build a propane forge and you can get a few old firebricks then smash them up and have the gas/air mix blowing up through the smashed brick pieces. This will allow you to bury your workpiece in the red hot brick particles and it will heat your workpiece more evenly than having the flame hitting just one side of it, it will also reheat quicker as the stored energy in the brick pieces adds to the overall heat available.
You may already know this...
Coal is not the best for forging as it's smokey, dirty and has a lot of **** in it that will adhere to your workpiece thus producing poor work. We call it coke here, not sure of the Norwegian name, but it is coal that has been pre-burned to remove contamination and coke is effectively smokeless. You can also use wood charcoal, your forge is then pretty much an air-blown barbeque and that's really clean but be prepared to keep throwing a handful of fuel on as it will burn away rapidly. I think it's common in Spain to use wood charcoal but here coke is the fuel of choice. The first forge I made I tried coal but the meter high flames and the stink soon put me off that idea!
Happy forging!
