My new lathe stand

I thought I would contribute to the group by sharing a recent project I completed. I wanted a new lathe stand for my Craftex B2227L lathe. The old factory stand was a bit low and the storage space was terrible. I built this one to incorporate a tool box for all the tooling plus it allows me storage for turning stock. I built everything except for the tool box.

whey too clean, Like it. I have a roller cabinet next to my lathe and mill full of tooling, though I'm sure my lathe would flatten a cabinet.

Never the less a good idea on saving space

See you have not made any improvements to it? like welding a handle to the tailstock nut for quick release,very cumbersome when using a spanner as it chips paint if not careful.

What size bed is that?

I only have small Clarke 300m metalworker.

Why have I never thought of putting my tooling and bar stock in a roller cabinet??

Great piece of work. My stand is fine so I'll not be replacing it but I'll certainbly steal the roller cabinet idea

Ditto , there will be one day when quite unthinkingly you'll reach forward to take some thing off the shelf whilst the lathe is running ....not a pretty thought or sight for the results.

C'mon guys,those that are saying its an accident waiting to happen....its not because if you have a look at the shelf,its positioned at the stock end of the lathe and reaching over he would have to move to the stock end of the lathe to select something.

But on saying this if you reach/lean over a lathe whilst its running,should you be operating one pn the first place?

In a hurry, reach across on one leg, which would bring you closer to said lathe.
Also there is cutting/cooling fluid ? right behind the lathe chuck.

I'm just suprised no one has picked him up on the none chuck guard,heck this was the first rule in my basic lathe training "put that damn guard down before you operate that lathe" was the stern loud voice from the Dutch instructor,who was built like a brick out house.

I was told you don't use a small lathe for parting off, you saw them oversize and use the lathe to true the ends up.. This is from a friend who has a small lathe but used to use large ones.
