My new machine shop

the steel is for several things. One is the steel plate that is for the new working table in the new shop and some angle bars for feet and frame. The HEB 200 is for my living room. The people that built the house thought that a column in the middle of the room was a great idea, I figure not and used the H bar to move the column. And some other projects. Pix of my living room in the Easter vacation.

Posting some pix from before and after the first layer of coating.
As you can see there is a LOT of clutter in all the shelf's and all over, when the paint is dried there is going to be some cleaning and installing of new shelf's to put things in order

Since this is a welding forum.......

Since this is a welding side I'll post some welding stuff.
In progress of making a new table in the old shop.

Cutting some steel, angel bars 50 x 50 mm.



Cutting steel with the band saw is perfect



Making a frame, after some precise cutting the, diagonal measurement was just 3 mm of, that is good i enough for me.

After finishing the painting and some two days for hardening of the paint. And NOW it's time for cleaning up and start to install the new stuff as shelf's and some electrical and some piping for working air.
But the painting went pretty good.....

I wish my Workshop was that big ,good work,3mm out on diag?thats what big hammers are for... that chair looks far to comfortable to be in the workshop

One word of warning - at the beginning of this thread you mentioned putting a plasma cutter into your non-welding room - dont! Plasmas make lots of fume and mess. Don't be fooled by the nice cut they give. If it's not a CNC cutting under water, put it somewhere else. Even if it is a CNC cutting under water, somewhere else is still the correct place for it.

An up date

Been hanging round in Africa for some time now but finally got back and made some progress in both my shops. soon finishing welding the top plate to the new working table



After buying the Ridgid 535 pipe threading machine I finally got round to making the portable table for it, later I'm gonna paint it and cut out a plywood plate for the shelf under it. but first some under the way testing of the height. with my hse assistant....

and finally on the site.






made some progress on my steel strip tank. Under construction I saw that the heating element nut was made of brass. To encounter this problem I took a hole saw and cut out the 1 inch bsp union for the heat element.


After this I took a piece of pipe and welded shut in one end




After this I welded the 1 inch union to the other end and later welded this to the tank. the reason for this is that the liquid in the tank will disintegrate all types of aluminum and brass and thereby flooding my floor with acid, not cool.....





The plan is to fill the housing with some sand to help transmitting the heat from the element to the tank. also possible to change to a dry element but time will show on that one. Also on the tank chapter is the control box, bought a small cabinet and timer relay, power supply, pt 100 temp transmitter and a temp controller ( posting some pix if there is some interest) working on the wiring but found that my set up is not covered in the manual so I'm contacting the supplier to morrow, to sort that out.
To meet the recommendations for the hse spec on the stripping solution I to day installed an air duct system.

Sand is not a very good conductor of heat - you may find that the element overheats

The only option is to change the element and pipe for an dry element, but thanks for the tip, had my doubts my self but decided to try any way.

The other option is to have it work like a cholorifier. Have the element in a water bath thus transmitting the heat through the wall of the capillary housing to the acid? what temperature does the strip medium need to be at? As long as it is less than 100 degrees C it should be ok? As long as you have a thermostatic contoller on there, you could even put a relief valve and water level switch on.
