my new/old compressor

hi all

got my new/old compressor today
fully working and holding pressure

huge motor made by cp,,,not got a stamp or sticker,has bush/bearings oilers either side with snap lids

its got one tank underneath approx 4" o/d by 36"ish in u-shape,any idea on litre size???

not sure on the thing hanging of the head with tap on top?any ideas??

will strip and clean n paint

i havnt seen one of those switches for years either its ancient think i would replace that switch.
good solid compressor

the switch-what should i replace it with??? its got 30amp giant fuse,twice the size as normal fuse

have you had it running and does it switch off when upto pressure

not had it running long,but tank holds pressure!!but it did have water,but only few drips,cos it was standing for few weeks in a garage

The thing you are wondering about is an unloader.when the pressure is up to the set value it trips and sends pressure to lift a couple of the valves so that the compressor continues to run but only in the free wheel mode until the pressured drops again to the set lower value then the valves come back into operation again.

oh right,,,its like a blow-valve,so when its filled the tank it trips until the tank pressure drops,then trips again to fill tank

If it ain't broke don't fix it, does the switch have a small copper tube coming from it ?. The thing on the head with the tap on it is the automatic air governor, the pipework connects it to the suction valve unloaders that is fitted to the cylinder head, when it gets up to pressure the compressor doesn't switch off but keeps running while still drawing in air and expelling it back out from the cylinder as the unloaders keep the suction valves open, this in turn cools down the cylinders, when the pressure then drops to the cut in pressure the suction valve unloaders lift and the compressor pumps air back to the receiver until it reaches 120 psi and the whole process starts again.

no,,,theres no pipe going to switch,got ya,,,,,its quite an engineering piece,,,the first time ive seen one like this

On some of the unloaders you can turn the top handle thro' 90* and it will operate straight away.the top cover has a built in ramp that lifts the spindle.

Gordon's right again, the voice of experience. You lift and turn the wing nut when you need to start it if it has pressure in the receiver.

Good system when you are working them hard, lot less load on the motor. Loads still in service tells you something.

Rough guess 7cfm,oil it says on mine shell corena H68.

It does say sae 20 on the red label on yours!.
