another little update

iv tried getting the panels from hadrian panels and they dont stock the bits i need

has anyone got any ideas what company bodyshops use if there doing accident repairs and need to replace inner panels etc ?

im thinking i might have to get a donor glxi thats cheap and cut out the panels to use that i need, i dont really want to be plating it up so its easy to spot the repair sections under the bonnet

yep im still learning with the welder, and its no help that my welding torch on the mig i have is knackered but i cant find a replacement

this is the panels im after its both panels that have rusted so i would want both

I think I would cut the rust out and fabricate some repair sections,use cardboard for templates and take your time to make it a good fit.

just not 100% happy with my welds to do the repair to the standard it needs to be

just a little update

the colt is now stripped down to the bare shell so i can start on any repair welding and also now iv gt my new welder i can start on strengthening the engine bay ready to drop in the early mitsubishi turbo engine

iv also got all the parts i need to start on rebuilding but im still stuck with a knackered crank as the bearing have gone and scratched the crank

pics and info will be added as soon as i get a chance to get the pics on the pc

As you know i now i was using the GTI car you see above but iv found out the retro fitted suroof is dangerous as 3 of the roof supports have been cut so iv went and bought a glxi off a friend as it has no sunroof in it and there is less corrosion so im using this new car for the project at the moment its main use is as a cheap run around for up to and back to the garage so until iv got the evo engine rebuilt ready to drop that in to the new shell

here is how it looked when i brought it back to dundee, looking very shiny as my mate gave it a good wash and wax before i picked it up

and here it looks now after i swapped over the 13 inch steel wheels to 14 inch gti alloys, it now handles a lot better now that iv swapped them over

and then i decided to make it a GTI replica for now until the garage work calms down and i get a chance to rebuild the evo engine, which i also have bought another as a spare as the crankshaft is damaged on mine through worn bearings, il take a pic of that when i get a chance
