Thats a cracking build , im not at all jellous of cource .
one day i will do something similar just need a house with a decent size garden first !
i have a good source for bricks ok so they are what you might call 'thirds', ie some are chipped or stuck together etc , but you can get any size load for £20 which goes towards there xmas do /tea fund .
ive been three times now with an 8 wheel tipper , so about 20 tonnes for £20
having seen what the farmer has had built with them i shall be doing the same when the time comes
That looks like the sort of thing that would cost 30 grand or more to get built. Do you know how much it cost you?
Planning my own garage on a DIY basis (with the help of a builder friend). Mine needs planning so won't escape the building inspectors. Good inspiration there.
scarily ive totted up the cost of everything and im looking at about 8k for materials and then my time.
Fran- gotta love them little cars, i have a mercedes computer so can work on them pretty easy, simple car to fix, good fuel economy etc
Mikey D-thats the way to do it, i used a really good mix of imperial and metric bricks, any colour and size, then raked out the joints to give it instant age
Malcolm-there are plenty of ways around planning, unless its an extension of your house, it saves some money, oh and when building control get involved ,
Take another bow, I'm very impressed!
Did my garage about 25 yrs ago from all 2nd hand materials on purpose 'cause it had to match the house, still looks good.
It's going to be a shame to have to move and leave it, but it'll have added value to your property so you should have some extra funds to build the next one
Landrover builder, you can build the heater, very easy to build, i'll put up a thread if you like. Jim, nope shame really, as we are an old farm we only have 60AMP supply for the house/outbuildings and my workshop, the lights flicker when the compressor kicks in.
Paul, i would never have thought 5 years ago about building something that big, but with research (sitting on the internet everynight) you can see how simple it is if you break it down to individual tasks, bricklaying was the most tedious, and i made a few mistakes, but only i see them
Ahh shame about the 60 A supply, still it's plenty as long as you aren't planing on welding submarines together, cracking workshop tho, I need to move out of my parents soon
Inspiring build, looks really good using an inflated wheel and tyre is such a simple but effective idea, I will pass it on to my stepson who does a bit of building work.
Hats off great looking workshop also interesting comments on building reg's
I was reading along and being impressed, then you showed the *upstairs* and I was sold.
Five minutes ago, my wife caught me peering out the window at the hill in our back garden - "What are you looking at?" she asked.
"Nothing", I replied...
SKOTL - thatnks for your kind words, but get the digger/dumper booked, and then its no return, if your Wife doesnt want the hill changed too much, make it into a bat cave, with grass on the roof, that would be my next project
