Mystery spanner.

Winchboy has recently bough a small box of spanners to get a few he was missing, the bloke wouldn't split them. This was in the box but we have never seen one like it?
Is it for Aircraft?

We thought that but its different this is the same size 12 point XDH part number the spanner inquisition is XDES part number?

Spline wrench, I wonder what they are used for?

Only thing I can think of seeing them on was Hydraulc motor about 30 years ago we used a 12 point socket

That’s a fairly old snap on logo and it doesn’t look to have been used much. Probably a nice quality bit of spanner there.

You tend to need them on VAG cars. I remember needing one for the suspension on my in laws Seat Ibiza.
I ended up buying a set of Roebuck sockets with them.

Yes they are for "spline" headed fasteners but you should also be able to use it on 6 and 12pt fasteners.

Hi, I'm with Hood on this, it looks like for holding a splined shaft while a locknut is tightened up against it.

It looks very much like a set of Roebuck Uniwrench spanners that I have Designed to fit several size hexagons A/F Metric Sae etc, Also claim that they will drive on nuts that have damaged corners, And they do actually work well

I have some draper sockets just like that, theory being they can be used on lots of different fastener types.

That spanner being Snapon, it wont be for that reason, that's a spanner intended for spline head fasteners and nothing else.

Snap on, being Snap on, I would think they wouldn't make a dual purpose tool, But sell an individual tool for each application. It would be interesting to see that spanner with various size nuts inserted, and see if it could work.

Thanks we are aware of this system but it has no date stamp, we have seen this before but no idea why some stuff isn't dated, the paten numbers date to 1966 so it must be after that?
I believe the "Snap On " Script on it changed early 80's so its at least 40 years old

I've got a set of sockets the same from Halfords. Actually come to think of it I've also got a dinky little quarter drive socket and bit set from either Aldi or Lidl and the sockets in that are the same. They are surprisingly versatile in what they'll get a grip on and they get a good grip so good for metric and imperial as well as slightly damaged stuff.
