I've got a set of sockets the same from Halfords. Actually come to think of it I've also got a dinky little quarter drive socket and bit set from either Aldi or Lidl and the sockets in that are the same. They are surprisingly versatile in what they'll get a grip on and they get a good grip so good for metric and imperial as well as slightly damaged stuff.

I think these are manufactured to fit a specific fitting on Air craft etc, the Halfords etc are just a version of flank drive to place the load on a different position on the nut

Spline drive, used for spline fasteners and for 12/6 point - IIRC when they designed the spline drive fasteners they deliberately sizes the system so you could interchange the spanners and sockets for use on six and twelve point fasteners. They are supposed to work well grip wise but can chew up the bolt heads a bit.

Can't find the ones I've got on the web any more - not overly surprising as I got them cheap when they were being discontinued. But they aren't that unusual.

Looks to be a very similar drive to the Clarke/Halfords Vortex go-through sockets.

They are imperial sizes so probably yank spline drive, they were using them on injection pumps and some auto boxes long before we saw spline drive over here.

What they will work on, anything they are a tight fit over. They are fantastic if you dont have the space for multiple different types of odd ball fastener specific spanners or sockets. Esspecially handy as the extra long double ended box wrenches. Used a lot by service engineers that have to fly places and on specific aircarft fasteners.

you sure? mate of mine has a set of these and he is forever bringing stuff over hes rounded off so he can use my 6 sided socket set

I have a few 12 pt spline sockets and 12 pt internal drives, mostly SP bought from Halfords in the late 80's but I can not remember exactly what I would have used them on. It would have been either body / suspension fixings on very late Marina / Ital or the late MK2 Escort. I do remember the first time I needed TX and eTX sockets I thought I could use the 12pt sockets but no they did not fit at the time TX was still rare and expensive to buy tools for.

I have a set of long reach reversible ratchet spanners from bluepoint, they are brilliant and not rounded any fastener yet, however i've lent the 10mm one away and it came bent, the numpty really put a lot o torque to undo the bolt !

Ooooooooooooo id love them must resist and a bargin at half price. I dont think id want to use them either but if your a travelling maitenace person so handy because they would be so light. This one has to go in the irrational tool desires thread.

I saw them in the catalogue at my local Koken distributor and asked why they had a fancy wooden case... the guy looked them up and said you don’t even want to know the price of these

It's getting silly with fasteners these days.

There are also ones that look exactly like torx but have 5 points instead of 6, causes much head scratching and frustration until you realise.

Nope its not i asked a snapon truck about it for a laugh when i was on ounce the price is genuine. He couldnt even give me a discount as his buy in price was so high for it.
