It turns out that in my haste to tap a hole, I have made a terrible mistake. I managed to use my pillar drill and an adjustable spanner to tap my bit of ali, but the chinesium toolpost that i'm trying to fit to my myford doesn't want to screw in nicely. I *assumed* that it was a metric thread. After all, what backwards nation uses imperial?
On measuring again the diameter is around 14.1mm, and my 1.5 thread pitch measuring tool doens't fit nicely either. How the hell did i cock this up? So a bit of googling reveals that it's probably a 9/16 tap that I need as well as a tap wrench. Is that BSF, BSW, UNC, or UNF?

BSW and UNC are coarse thread series. The not-quite-1.5mm-pitch is about 17tpi. 'Around 14.1mm' is close to 9/16". 9/16" BSW and UNC are both 12 tpi so quite different (a lot coarser) than hovering around 17tpi. Hence, it is 9/16" BSF or UNF. 9/16" BSF is 16tpi and is obsolete. 9/16" UNF is 18tpi and is the most likely candidate.

@roofman I don't suppose you have a spare a 9/16 UNF tap and an imperial set of thread pitch gauges you can throw in to sweeten the deal?

and pay you for the privlegeI ordered one. It arrived today. Came in one of those nice telescoping square tubes. Couple of dollops of machine oil on it to show it's genuine
Not used it, but it looks tidy.

It's the best tap wrench holder of that size I have.

Not really.
What is that you have already tapped? The compound slide? What is the actual thread you have tapped? It is not quite clear if you used M14 x 2 (standard metric coarse) or M14 x 1.5 (since you talk above about checking something with a 1.5mm pitch gauge). What size hole did you drill for the tap you have used?
Right now, your best option might be to make another stud to go into the thread you have. Before you commit to this, check that the supplied stud is the correct length (not too long or too short) and that the toolpost sat direct on the compound slide allows the cutting tools to be adjusted to centre height. It would be somewhat irksome to make another stud and then find you need a riser block under the toolpost, rendering the new stud too short.

Easier to replace the stud. What tool post is it? I may have a spare stud. M14 x 1.5 or x2?
M14x1.5 is a common size for chinese tool posts.
Also cant beat an apprentise made tap wrench - this one made by my dad. No decent ones on ebay right now but they pop up occasionally.
It's an inch thick bit of ali, which was drilled to 12.5mm and then tapped to m14x1.5.
