If that's the case then why is av forum covered with screen burn problems and customers not getting it covered. Sellers specifically says screen burn is not covered under warranty
That is because said punters believe in this mythical x years warranty. They even pay extra for a piece of paper that gives them the same rights as the law requires anyway! They also shop at Currys who believe incorrectly that their terms and conditions override the law and so go away to phone me, when they get the truth!
The Act is largely based on the opinion of the "man on the Clapham omnibus". A ten Pound toaster can be expected to fail in a year or two, a multi hundred Pound TV should last at least six years. What is reasonable to consider a defect? A few stuck pixels wouldn't but a failed PSU or T-con board certainly would.
The way it works is that in the case of a defect that appears after six months, you go to an engineer for a report. That report if it agrees that it has an inherent defect, means that the supplier has to do something about it. They can:
a) Replace it, although a refurb set is perfectly acceptable If fully operational.
b) They can repair it and they get one opportunity so to do before you have rights of refund.
c) They can give you a refund which would be pro-rata for the time it has been in use.
