Need petrol compressor for sandblasting project

As above. Looking for something around 150-200L mark with as high psi and cfm as poss. Is anyone selling or know of anyone who is ?? Im based in wakefield west yorks. Please drop me a message on here if you can help. Thanks

Chap I bought my blast cabinet off in Wakefield mentioned he had a few diesel road compressors for sale. We didn't discuss price as I already have one.

car wheels take quite a bit of time to clean a 14cfm compressor with shotblasting pot using a 3mm jet would take quite a while to clean.ok if u arent in any hurry . realy the next size up to be efective would be a 90 cfm comp. and blasting pot jet size 6.omm big and expensive

How big and expensive are we talking ?? Im wanting to get a nice setup going for my workshop. The initial cost would be high but I would like some good kit to get things done with. What am i looking at ?? Cheers

heres a few pictures of varous sizes of comps . one is 14cfm minimum would run a blast pot with 3 mm jet but would run out of pressure within few minutes or so. the second comp is 28 cfm that would run the 3mm jet at a constant 90psi the diesel comp is 90cfm that would run a 1/4 inch or 6.0mm jet at 90psi. then you would need a cabinet with suction gun and preferably pressurised pot

To be honest im clueless to whats best for my needs. I want to learn and have a go at sandblasting but think buying something like a diesel crazy high cfm jobby would be pointless to start out with. What im wanting the stuff for is engine/exhaust parts and wheel blasting. I was looking at building my own cabinet and buying a pressure pot from ebay. What would an ideal petrol/diesel setup consist of ?? 200l 25cfm...summet along those lines ?? Thanks for the info

a £100 pressure pot would get u away with a 3hp 14 cfm compressor .then u would have to make cabinet or buy one .the suction guns are quite crap and slow . ok for light small parts if u arent in a hurry .theres a post self made gritblaster yesterday look there

Those 100 quid pressure pots from ebay run at 6-25cfm. Been told i wouldnt get away with anything under 5.5HP comp to run one without stopping every 30 seconds ???

25 cfm is about rite for a 3mm jet at 90psi .anything less than 70psi the work takes twice as long and the cutting speed of media halves

Cool, ill look around, although i seem to be struggling finding anything over 15cfm petrol wise. Could do with one of those small industrial ones you see on the road powering thumpers etc, think their around 40cfm. That would be ideal!! Would the hoses and attachments differ on something like that compared to a normal style compressor ?

heres a few adaptors just make them up to suit. from 3/4 bayonet to euro or pcl fittings

I was thinking along the same lines when I was wanting to upsize the nozzles on my Ebay blast pot.
I even considered buying a large compressor pump unit from Machine mart and a cheap chinese engine off Ebay and coupling them together. Figuring a least the major bits would be new. The other valves, throttle system are reasonably cheap. I was going to use a propane tank as the reciever.

When I added it all up it still made more sense to get my road compressor. Less than £400 to buy £150 to fully service it and far more air than I needed.

Trouble is now I've got used to it I'm getting greedy and thinking I could do with running more air a bigger nozzle and blast a lot faster. One snag is moving and storing a bigger road compressor than a 130cfm.

the 1st pump i had was a 90cfm vee twin coupled to a 20hp twin lister diesel engine. hand crank start what a pig to start in winter even after i warmed it up with blowtorch. i used it for 4 years and sold it on .bought motor and pump for £200 .00 quid and sold it on for 300

If i knew what i was doing id have a go at making something myself. Id love to have a road compressor but i have limited space to work in so its not really an option. Something like the ebay one above but 2nd hand is about my only option other than the small 40cfm diesel ones ive seen, but i cant find any for sale...they all seem to be available for rental only. Think the first job is to build myself a nice cabinet to work in. Will just have to keep an eye out for a bargain as far as the compressor goes. Thanks for the advice, got some good plans to work forward with now

Just wanted to ask a daft question too. How do the big diesel compressors work as they obviously dont have a big air tank for storage. Is the air just pumped out at such a fast rate they dont need to store it ?

And another one...say i ran 130cfm comp with an ebay blast pot 6-25 cfm. Would it work ok and not just blow the thing up with excessive power ??

there either rotary screw or hydrovane / they dont need an airtank small pots will work .the comp wont even rev up it will run it on tickover

My 130 cfm compair screw compressor does have a small air reciever inside about 50 litres. It's main use is to seperate the lubricating oil from the air before sending it down the supply pipes.
Don't worry about blowing anything up, any excess air is simply vented to atmosphere. As set from the factory my compair only produces 90psi of pressure. I turned it up slightly at he inbuilt regulator. These compressors are all about high volume and not pressure.

i once went to buy the oil seperator filters for my last screw comp they were clogged up letting oil through theres 5 filter disks in it £100 quid a set . a good thought rinse em through with petrol worked a treat no oil in air line . plugged the helmet air suply into comp got started then felt sick . bloody petrol fumes overcame me had to use helmet plugged into me smaller comp till fumes disapeared
