need suggestions for eye protection when using grinder

When I worked I had to occasionally use self contained breathing apparatus which had a tendency to fog. The guys who maintained the gear found some stuff to spray on the inside of the visor to prevent it. Just had a quick search on the net & they sell something similar for motorbike helmet visors, wonder if that would help?

You can buy the expensive anti mist sprays but there's a much cheaper option. A tiny spot of fairy liquid smeared on the inside of the visor and then polished off with a tissue.

I have tried several different types of eye protection including some expensive bolle stuff. But every one steams up when I use them with a dust mask. The only thing that works for me is a full face shield & I use that 90% of the time.

just got a pair of uvex, will let you know how the work, I use a pan mixer for making reconstituted stone pots/statues, as well as the usual grinding of steel and allways they steam up, or a bit of .... hits your cheek and up into eye, they always tick you off in hospital, you werent wearing safety glasses, so as I too like to keep my eyesight bought numerous pairs to try, these uvex certainly fit comfortable.
One thing I have noticed if when filling mixer I put dust mask on,as always, within moments cant see anything, totally fogged out.

With Paul here, use very similar ones. Uvex ultravision I think the ones we use are.
Don't tend to mist up, I wear prescription glasses under mine.

I also wear glasses and because I'm like Moley from wind in the willows I need expensive ones (£380) a pair.....
The Uvex one's are the first I've tried that don't seem to steam up and they have a full seal around them so I feel much safer wearing them.
I got mine from Arco in Watford just this week and I'm so far I'm very impressed.

If your glasses steam up with a dustmask your mask don't fit which renders it far less effective
Usually it the bit over your nose not sealing. The air takes the easiest route steams up your glasses

Off topic a trifle, Just before I retired I was supplied with a pair of uvex safety boots, with out a doubt the most comfortable boots I have ever worn..( The standard cripplers aren't a patch on them).

Are your boots on here?? my lad is struggling to get decent comfortable safety boots.

Here's one I made earlier.



Just an old motorcycle visor and a cheapo (chinese welding) helmet head band. I was doing a lot of welding under the van and needed something that would work close to the face. It really works well! So well in fact you can easily forget you're wearing it and I would constantly have to double check it was actually in place.

it's just a random visor, they're all pretty much the same. I nicked the headband of a cheapo chinese welding helmet and they screw together perfectly so it even flips up. Using it again today while doing this:

If your using a 9 " diamond wheel or the likes it's good to know there will have been some testing done

The nearest iirc is the uvex 8401/2 quatro S3 , it was about 9 years ago, they were about £40 then.

Wouldn't like to say but both the perspex type material and the frame that holds it in place

I think there will be an industry std impact test as part of the ce and or industry regs

I did mate thanks. Thats why I asked for a model number it seems like on bob heath they are all quite deep ones.

tried the uvex out today, cement mixer full, ear defenders and face mask, well they didnt steam up for about fifteen minutes, by which time I had filled moulds ,so way way better than all the previous ones before, but I do get a sweat on as its hard graft, maybe I will try a visor again..
I think if grinding or doing something not so strenuous probably they would be fine. but I would give them a yes vote as being the best so far in the last twenty odd years I have tried.
I did wonder if the seperate eye glasses like swimmers wear, but obviosly safety ones would be better but havent come accross any. arther

Have you had a look for BS approved 'flying goggles' style motorcycle goggles?
