Neff induction hob repair

Has anyone tried this?

Yesterday there was a bang from the hob and the cooker circuit tripped. After resetting 3 of the rings showed a P1 code. Googling says replace the control board for these rings, the board costs about £300.

In a bit further.

My concern is there is zero sign of damage on the board and £300 is a bit of a gamble on maybe getting it fixed.

It's 9 years old so perhaps should just replace it.

British Gas ( ) do a fixed price appliance repair* for something like £99.

The downside is that you then have to take on an annual contract, which in some ways is not a bad thing. The premium is reasonable.

* whether this is still the case, I don’t know.

I once did a repair on my mother's cooker. Control board looked very similar. I ended up connecting it to a BBC Model B computer. Worked perfectly

Induction hobs are great though - love them. Faster than gas and easier to clean.

The electrons....they must get excited, very excited to heat up your saucepan.
or else they go on strike, and have a party instead.
The bang was the start of the party.

That's where I would be looking.
Can you test the coils and make sure they are not shorted.

The coils are about .1ohm, probably correct is they are just small high current inductors.

I'd say if they are not open circuit and match they fine. Always get worried about else has failed.

Either suck it and see or carefully trace the board.
