Smart lathe, very high tech.
Does the wood tend to thrash about a bit at that potential length.
Scott still messed it up in my book. Took horses instead of dogs, a big mistake, horses eat hay. When things get desperate dogs can eat each other and still navigate. Dogs were bred for that game and more efficient than horses.
Shackelton and his boys survived longer on the ice eating what they could catch, they crossed the southern ocean in an open boat, they crossed South Georgia on foot, unmapped terra incognita not crossed again until 1955 by a specialist expedetion; he did after surviving for forget how long on the ice.
A true hero and leader of men. He even looked after the selfish idiot among his crew. I would have pushed him over board if he did not behave himself.
He was buried in the Falkland after a heart attack on a follow up expedition.

hi thanks for replies, sorry I dont sell the boxes they are for gifts , I would trade for materials though so that I can make something else,

I have turned up to 4ft on a previous incarnation of this lathe with no probs, the thinner bits tend to whip and bow but they can be steadied by wrapping your mitt around and using thumb to help guide the chisel or gouge, next project is a naval cannon, materials salvage from machine pallet
