New compressor problems..

Hi guys,

Got to pick your brains on this one.. I’ve eventually managed to get three phase into my garage and have gone for a large single pump Clarke unit.. 30cfm.

All installed perfectly, ran the machine.. no issues, drained and let it kick in several time with no problems then.... BANG BANG BANG!.. the sound of fire crackers before bursting into life again.. it’s done this 3 times and have no clue as to what it is..

Has anyone experienced this? Il be ringing machine Mart tomorrow but just thought I’d ask to see if it’s a simple pressure switch or valve problem..

Compressor is holding air as you would expect and building it well..

it was filled with oil when you got it .. just a thought

It was filled yes.. just above the middle so max I guess ..

Does the noise occur when starting with an empty tank, full tank or both?

I think the tank was relatively pressurised..

I just hope there’s no damage.. obviously it has a warrantee just seems a shame to get her plumbed in with all this effort to send it away etc or replace..

It is sir yes.. all check by my electrician.. it just made a hell of a racket and then kicked in fine.. so bazaar.. but it’s worried me greatly..

When it reaches pressure and cuts out is there a hiss as it dumps the air between the pump and the unloader valve so that it doesn't try to start under load.
No hiss need to be investigated.

Yes there is a his.. a loud one as a mater of fact it definately dumps..

Does it do it every time or just sometimes ? It may be a problem with the reed valves sticking.

hopefully he might have got in touch with the staff . I mean pillocks in machine mart today to shed light on the problem

Isolate the compressor and take the belt cover off, check the pulley on the motor just in case they have forgotten to tighten the grub screw, the same for the pump pulley as well.

Hi guys, thankyou for your reply’s , had it out with machine Mart today. Local department weren’t really considering a replacement but transferred me to technical who have said it’s a must that it’s replaced so I now have to take the unit back / unplumb it etc and swap it with the new item. Have to say it’s pretty poor that they can’t offer a delivery/pick up service but I guess that what it is. I think something is sticking in it for sure.. il keep you updated either way, very alarming! All this just to run air fed.. the cost of the theee phase was bad enough lol.. thanks again

wouldnt be down a phase would it?
just a thought that one phase might be down and its not got enough umph to get going again when presurised
only ever had that on a hydraulic unit that banged when a phase was down.

I had all phases checked and a were even across the board, no dimming from lights either when starting which would indicate a discrepancy, I did think of it.. but it’s not the case. What was the bang you experienced? Thanks again
