New helmet needed.

My old speedglas seems to be dying, needs switching back on randomly which is doing my head in and getting very tatty.
I went browsing today, I looked at a few
The Miller ones looked like a tarts handbag and a bit flimsy then I spotted a big split in one, I was told 'it must have been dropped' dont fancy one of them then. Well flimsy.
There was an esab newtech at £225+vat fitted well but seemed a bit pricy.

I think I should push the boat out a bit as I will be wearing it on my poor noggin for a long time.
I am after comfort and durability. Budget up to £200. what do you reccomend?

I have the Esab eye tech 2 and it's very comfy and a good helmet.

I use an Optrel Satellite Evolution. That was over £200 new (from Arco), I think they do newer models that are cheaper.
Controls on side of head, grinding mode, shades from something like 5 to 13. Clear polycarb lens over the welding screen for splatter, sparks etc.

Edit: hmmm, I may have been optimistic on the price... but here's the current e680 on Ebay with a BIN of £200, reserve could be a fair bit lower?

i still prefer my speedglas to a lot of other ask sparky she's the girl in the know about speedglas gear

Mr C once you get sorted with which ever new one you get take the time one evening to look at your old one with a view to replacing the battery? If you susceed youll have a spare to tuck away if not then recycle to the bin, nowt to loose one you have yer new bonnet : )

Sorry chunko, for me it looks like a gimmick, like that other one that can be flipped up using your chin...... http://www.accustrike.com/accu.htm.......just another unnecessary thing to go wrong for me, I know everyone complains about the speedglass, especially the headbands, but for me I don't think you will find a lighter more head friendly mask that does exactly what it should very well.

I can see the autoflip front thingy being a gimmick that a year or two down the line could become a pain.
When I am grinding I generally take it off anyway.

I am in that rare 'have funds to spend' mode or rather was, linisher, welding hat, vice, and new top for my workbench. Then Skinto again.

Already being a user of the trend faceshield chunko, I thought you would have looked at the miller coolband range of shields, I imagine the designs / artwork of their helmets are probably not to your liking, (not a great fan of it myself) but that is not what actually does the job, we're really only interested in piece in front of our eyes at the end of the day really.

I went off to buy a miller one yesterday, the one he lifted off the wall to show me had a 2" split in the front 'oh' he said' it must have been dropped' fine says I and immediately decided not to buy one, these things do get dropped, they are industrial equipment. I reckon it was almost as flimsy as the ones I paid 25 quid for to use in my workshops for the public. £180? no chance.
He even offered to get me a plain one. But I am after spending the next 10? years wearing it everyday.

The E680, I figured I might as well treat myself.
It was £200 on fleabay. Have not received it yet, as soon as I get hold of it I will post a quick review.
If it is the official balloon and paper mache version you had better not laugh.
Typically I am away for a week.

Just been looking at them on the net. Look like a quality product. There is one currently on ebay but it's £260 BIN. Who stocks them where I can go and look at one? What type of price are they? I guess £260 is a bit over the top?

Been looking into this. The E680 looks like a great helmet, gets good reviews and has a great spec. I like the look of it too. How did you get one for £200 though. The cheapest I've seen on is £260 on ebay. 'In the shops' as they say, they are often well over £300.

What is the seller (or his carrier) messing about at? I bought a tyre on Monday, from a firm in Germany. It was collected at 1608, by midnight it was 10 miles from the Mohne dam () and it arrived next to my desk on Wednesday afternoon.
On the same day I ordered some wheel bearings from an Ebay seller 100 miles away: they turned up on Friday.
The Royal Snail don't seem to be able to get a simple A4 envelope from one town to the next in less than a week nowadays...

Just got back from Hols.
A nice new welding bucket.
Why so cheap?
Not sure. it also has the optional hardhat on it as well, makes it a bit heavy but not uncomfortable. Not had a chance to wear it in anger.
it does seem very well made compared to the Jackson one I looked at; nice clicky mechanism and all seems to work. Not even been tried on by the look of it.
Bargeeen.
I will report back when I have tried it out on Monday.
I will also contact the seller and see if there are any more.
