Dear Matt, please tell us more!
- Is it the same as Kemppi's WiseRoot?
- Is it software managing of short-circuit-arc or pulsed arc?
- Is it possible to upgrade old Saprom S3 mobile with SpeedRoot?
- Is it specialy developed for pipes with fixed axis, so it is efficient in all welding position including overhead (between 5 and 7 o'clock at pipes) or just for plates for downhill welding?
- Which gap in mm is recommended? Should fit-up be almost equal along the whole groove or it could vary from 3-9 mm as some brands declares for their machines?
- Should sides of grooves be beveled without land or some land is recommended?
- Is it for vertical down only?
- At pipes, Should the torch be weaved all the time or no time or somwhere there must be weaved and somewhere no weave?

I was at a exhibition called Euroblech in Hannover last week and this is where we launched SpeedRoot. However it was only a 'Beta' version of the process, they were demonstrating.
I personally didn't get chance to use it yet, but they were rooting Square edge open Butt welds in 3mm sheet with a 4mm gap and 1mm dia wire, without weaving on Vertical down. 8mm-10mm gap was also possible Vertical down, but with weaving. On the 4mm gap configuration I also saw them weld, Vertical up, Flat and Horizontal positions.
They didn't weld any pipes at the exhibition however.
The final version should be available for purchase around Xmas/Jan time. It will be available for purchase upgrade to Standard Saproms, but only if the SpeedPulse upgrade has already been made.
As soon as ii get anymore info, I'll let you know.

Any idea how it works Matt? Is it some huge wet/freeze pulse affair? Any pics of face and root?

I don't know for sure Si, but as with everyone else's 'cold' processes its all about the way you control the droplet deposition and making sure that the current doesn't rise to fast on the next phase.
I have seen the video that will be on the website and as with SpeedPulse it also has some high speed imaging of the SpeedRoot arc so you can how it deposits the next drop of wire. I am certainly no expert on arc physics, but the easiest way to describe it is if you imagine that rather than the wire going down to make contact with the weld pool, the process uses the natural resonance/vibration effect of the pool and its these 'waves' that actually come up and touch the wire to take the next piece rather than the wire going down to the weld pool as with conventional dip/short arc. You will see exactly what I mean on the video.
I will probably get the Beta version of it installed in one of my demo machines and have a play with it this month. I'll post some pictures then.
