New sheet roof polycarbonate ideal or not

Ok at the back if my house is as pic

My idea would be replace this with polycarbonate double 16mm roof panels in just 2 sheets with a strip in the middle

would last for around 20 years if fitted carefully, allow a gap for expansion, they do tend to walk down a roof, I prefer not to drill and screw as that always fails, the sheet cuts a slot as it walks, try to restrain it at the bottom somehow,

It's the spacing and the fixing I'm have a think about using the poly can I use j hooks/bolt hooks will they work with the type fixings the plastic circles with the foam washer under neath ? And

The spacing of the bars is there enough there for fixing the roof panels to one gap it's at a guess 80 to 90 cm gap that's a lot of panel that could catch the wind if it's trying to RIP it up from under neath when winds are high

I would be inclined to fit timber to the steel work then use the correct screws / washers and caps from the top

Edit, if its angle iron then go for the Tek screws, straight into the steel

I would use the correct alloy glazing bars with a plastic snap in top hat profile but you still need to stop it walking down slope, I would not screw through as the sheet just cuts a slot as it expands down the slope, depends a bit on the sheet length, mine are long and expand a lot in the sun, they never contract back up the slope, always expand down hill, and then contracts from the top.....

If you do use bolts or screws, melt a hole, don't drill. My Dad did that on the utility room at their house 25 years ago and the sheets haven't cracked yet.

built it myself 30 years ago, old workshop / garage to the right, slowly moving all machinery down to the shed, needs some work, a lot of the sealed windows have gone milky, lots of missing roof tiles, not done much house work recently except the garage was separate so I joined the roof together, left it half finished for a couple of years, the last of the tiles need to weather in, I hope!!!

I’m in the process of re roofing our conservatory with 16mm polycarbonate. Every panel I’ve put the seal tape on before I’ve hoovered the dust out and had to take it off again!

You are doing the right thing getting rid of that corrugated stuff. WHen it eventually fails it will always be right above a tool box you left open or in the middle of winter when covered in snow.

I have a couple box profile panels in my workshop roof, I like the light but I've already replaced them once as I they were looking a bit ropey.

I would even consider glass but you would need a different support arangement. Glass would give more light and probably wouldn't be that much more than plastic. You would probably need to get toughened but it would last a lifetime

I would NOT drill or melt holes in the sheets at all, rely on the glazing bars and secure the top and bottom, top to prevent lift, bottom to prevent downwards drift, they will last a lot longer without any holes through them, my poly sheets were recently replaced after 20 plus years, mainly due to damage in a gale when I was in the middle of joining the garage to the pool so wind got under,

I recently made a simple awning from a single sheet using battens.

I put a slight convex in it so it's curved along the top for drainage (without having to fall one way or the other). It's held up well so far.

That’s corrugated sheet, from your pic I can’t make out if it’s draining to the left or right?
