New to spraying :)

I have had a read up on them but cannot afford the higher priced ones talked about, we know how much we want to spend its just the case of knowing if this spec is good enough for what we need. I'm going to makro today and will find out prices and spec there. The sealey one was more of a guide to see if i'm on the right track for my budget.
Hope i'm not looking like i'm asking questions without reading up at all. Ive read what i can and searched but not alot came up and these are the questions im left with.
You fellas know what your talking about and i like to know what i'm going to buy will do the job. Maybe one day i can pass on what ive learnt to someone else

Don't forget to budget in some water filtering into the output of the compressor too. I used an old Airmaster Tiger for years (1.5hp direct drive, 50L tank) and it was fine for spraying so long as I took a break between panels, but it did kick out a lot of water so my paint ended up with little bubbles. If it were me and I was on a budget, the cheap direct drive compressors are OK, just noisy and don't last as long as nicer ones. For sprayguns £50 from a paint supply shop is sensible - let them know which compressor you have and they'll sell you one with a smaller nozzle than the pro ones. Filter reg is about £25 from Screwfix.

Looking about on most places that sell compressors and ebay seemed to end up the best place with Wolf compressors, heres the spec, i think its the best we can afford due to needing a better gun for it aswell. Heres the spec

That is way to small. I started of with that and it was strugling to keep up.
Was spraying for 3 minutes and had to stop for five for it to catch up.
I use that for my spray mask or for me air tools.
You want at least a 100L. Look at gumtree also.
Picked mine up for £100 with spray mask and two Clark guns and two air lines. You Just have to be patient for it to pop up.
Oh and am now looking for a bigger tank and am a diyer.
Look at second hand instead of new.

Try and get hold of an empty 47kg propane cylinder, they make excellent receivers.

True enough, but for single panels it shouldn't be too much of a hassle. It's when you want to move on from there they become a pain. Everyone under buys their first compressor - it's the first rule in buying one.

My flatmate has one of the Wolf compressors in your link. He picked his up for a bit less and is happy with it. It's interesting they've removed the branding from the ad and claim it's made in the UK.

Thanks fellas i'll settle for that then, i understand that its not good enough for whole cars but i dont think i will be doing that for a very long time and 3 minutes of constant spraying seems to be plenty for panels.

Now i just have to find a spray gun for cellulose paints, i understand a 1.3 or 1.4mm is needed. i will have a search and see what i can find.

1.4 would be perfect for that compressor. In my mind the choice of nozzle has less to do with the paint and more to do with the air supply (at least from a DIY point of view where 'enough' air supply for the bigger nozzles seems a bit over the top).

Personally I use a 1.4mm nozzle for all paints. Many of the cheap and nasty spray guns have 1.7mm nozzles so watch for them.
