Going back to the points on quivers, if that wouldn't be considered changing topic , I've got a couple of ex-MOD things which I believe once contained mortars. Screw down air-tight lids and the perfect length for rods. Got them from the local scrappy who does MOD surplus gear as well.

i know the things you mean about 700mm long 120mm wide and green? recoiless gun shell case's i used to have one for taking A3 paper drawing to colledge on my bike

Something along those lines. Ex-MOD gear is great. We've got 'undreds of the amunition tins which we keep nails, staples, you-name-it in. They're perfect as they have good rubber seals around the top and clamp tight shut.

An ammo box is a good idea I'm passing by an ex mod supplier tomorrow time to have a look. Got a 32A socket fitted with a c breaker but that trips some times on switch on so time to get a D or HRC fuse!

My gran did that during the war, or something similar. She worked in a munitions factory during the war and a fuse got cross threaded in the shell. She thought it was a bright idea to batter it with a hammer to extract it, needless to say when she finished and looked round - the factory had been emptied.
