New welder

Got my new Welder The lroch H180t last week thanks to Steve and Matt its hard to imagine something that small can be so powerful and nice Weld with. first thing that impressed me was how solid it felt I've had a look at a few of the cheaper ones overhear in the shops and to be honest they felt like biscuits tins with buttons on them but the lroch is a really sturdy bit of kit.
Probably my main reason for buying the lroch as I wanted a Welder that would last me for years even if it gets knocked around a bit as accident do happen but I don't intend to drop it but at least I know it will stand up to it.
I've been putting it through its paces on mma and I'm really impressed having Welded with transformers both ac and dc but they don't even come close to
how smooth this is. I should have bought one of these years ago here is a few pics of my pride and joy



Next I have sort out some gas and started learning how to tig I'm pretty sure my tread count will go through the roof

yes but the budget didn't stretch as far as the footpedal

I'm currently designing a home built tig welder if anyone's interested. The torch is a garlic press, squeeze the handles to advance the tungsten. Power supply is a moulinex chef .

A Moulinex Chef?! That sounds a bit pricey to me. I think you should do a cost/benefit analysis on that. I mean, I'd use a hand whisk instead of the Moulinex so if the whisk costs 3% of what the Moulinex does but provides 80% of the function then surely the whisk is the better option?

would it not be cheaper to step up the voltage from the usb port on our computers,there is approx 5 volts available to power up lights and fans etc ,we need to increase this to 16 -28 by wrapping a welding rod around core of silver foil?can we get recycled chip oil to do something as well as the missus keeps throwing it away

Ok, forget the moulinex chef, I'll get a Bifinett mixer from Lidl instead, the garlic press is a tesco value one so the money I saved on that I can put towards an extra turn of wire or two. I've decided to bottle up my dogs f@rts and have devised a distilling machine from an old breadmaker to seperate the gases, I'm sure it contains helium as when he's sat at my feet the smell always rises to my nose .
What about instead of using shielding gas we just trickle the cooking oil over the weld as it forms? That would surely work and if the oil is preheated (also by the breadmaker ) then it would prevent cracking as the weld cools.
