This has just been posted elsewhere and it is IMHO too important to ignore.

So if any of you are using these dangerous contraptions please seriously, VERY seriously consider binning them and, please spread the word far and wide if I could beg of you, please.

If you look at the link FF gets a mention.
I have not been as much of a part of that as I would have liked, but, easy things like spreading the word I can and thus will do.
Perhaps, as you work for a large employer, you could get this disseminated via your employee noticeboards, and thus spread the word further?
On behalf of the hard work done by FF I'm sure that they would appreciate it.

They have not become dangerous all of a sudden, they have ALWAYS been dangerous, there has been a campaign waged by a select band of electricians and electrical engineers, including registered professional engineers and members of the IET (IEE) for some years.
It has taken that long for the perseverance to show results.
OFSTED sit on the fence, as to Electrical Safety First to some extent, Barnados, say that they mustn't be used.
Now the NHS have come out against, then it will be difficult for OFSTED and ESF to go against this IMHO.

I was nothing to do with the campaign, however, I have taken it upon myself to spread the word as far as I can.

So, any and all of you, please I beg of you, these things are dangerous, can you please help to eradicate them where ever you find them.

I have sent a copy of the PDF to my works e-mail and will forward it to site services manager tomorrow, he will know the best way to disseminate it throughout the company.

I think, that you work for what remains of the company which I did my apprenticeship at, and I've worked at their sites up until 2006 so I think that such a thing would have been put up back then, so I hope that this can still happen.

Thats good news now OFSTED will have to act, in the past my work has taken me to many schools and nurseries, some places will probably be able to fill a bin full with them. Let hope they get destroyed first.

I got my first full on 240v shock as a young lad of about 5 ish unplugging a old style 13 amp 3 pin the ones with non protected pins

at the time my fingers where small enough to get between the plug and the socket and make full contact with the pins no rcd and rewirable fuses with probably 40-50 amp short term capability.


IT HURT !!

AND I got shouted at------- by my Dad !!
I thought I was doing the right thing and unplugging the scalectric ------safety first as I was allways told !!

While we are on the subject its always worth a quick look over many Chinese manufactured plugs or adaptors, and comparing the pin length and dimensions with a good known plug.
The two common faults are live and neutral pins are both short, so when inserted only have a very small contact area, the other is a over size earth pin, this over time can damage the socket contact reducing contact pressure when a good plug is then inserted.

1st plug I ever fitted I was 14 . wired the transformer up and bruv plugged it in . the cores of wire were sticking out and he got a hell of a belt he called me a little b s tard and me dad kicked off with him for swearing and calling me it

I did exactly the same, at the same age. Back then it was common for there to be only one plug socket in each room. My nan had just done the hoovering and I wanted to watch the telly so I grabbed the plug and shoved it in the socket. Got an almighty belt off it.

I do keep a couple of those all-brass pin plugs for heavy equipment. Got one on my welder actually.

because they make contact with both live and neutral and the plastic cannot be guaranteed to be none conductive.
