Politically very divisive, but how the hell do NI councils / police / FB approve these?
We used to have a very well run one every Guy Fawkes but the local council put a stop to it when one year it was about 20ft high.

Think there's going to be a shortage of pallets let alone divers

Hi, Politics aside, what I was surprised at was the content of red and blue pallets. I was told that they are rental pallets and it's illegal to buy, sell or destroy them, they should be put back into the system to be re-used.

Reminds me of illustrations of the Tower of Babel. Hopefully it will burn uniformly otherwise 70 odd feet of burning pallet toppling in the wrong direction is not a comfortable thought.

not been able to buy used pallets for 6 months...
getting so desperate having to repair damaged ones with new wood.....
I'd give me back teeth for just 10 euro pallets....

Dont get me started, they build them in the middle of grass areas in estates, ruining them but it's OK because the council will come round and clear up the sh1t left behind and replant the green areas using my rates to pay for it. Stolen pallets and tyres are the mainstay of the bonfires. Council employees are threatened not to remove them, just imagine how council would react to a private individual illegally burning tyres. Fire service getting attacked when they turn out to protect and cool down nearby properties. Police are used as the usual political football stuck in the middle. Total F@#KWITS I wonder how this country will ever move on

Currently 70 feet high....will be 120 feet........jeez....that will be hot......

We used to have a bonfire on the beach at Humberston, one year we were donated a load of old caravans (some will love this) so we parked them in a circle around the bonfire.......I cant find the pictures but all the burning caravans were quite dramatic........the council stopped us after that

We have a bonfire here every year, much smaller scale, probably 3 lorry loads.
Usually get the non euro pallets from the docks, they have stacks of them sitting there that just take up room.

The world has gone mad. £20,000+, council funded bonfires. With the climate issues as they are (and spacex launching more rockets than ever). Why do this? I can think of better ways to spend it.

Pallets are treated wood, not too healthy to breath in, these look big enough they could give people problems.

Pallets are treated wood,

Pallets are sometimes painted like the GKN Chep blue but otherwise they are made out of the cheapest wood they can get hold of and nothing else done to them. The ones that are treated are marked HT for heat treatment and are for international use to stop spread of bugs.

Blue pallets are the property of Chep just the same as Calor cylinders are the property of Calor, but when did that ever stop someone cutting a 47kg Calor cylinder in half and making it into a bbq...

i had a big bondy working round daughters house getting rid of crap.it melted the single story guttering and fasure board and nearly set fire to the conifers 3 meters away fortunately the neighbors conservatory was 4 meters away and didn't damage it was i relieved

i wouldnt do anything like that cutting calor gas bottles up its not right just drill em and weld fittings in and become ready made tanks for comps or blasting pots

An uncle of mine was at a bonfire here years ago with the kids at halloween. Two complete floaters burst through the crowd with a full cylinder of calor they had just nicked from the shop around the corner and pitched it right into the middle of the fire ! He made himself and the kids scarce toot-sweet !
