NI Bonfires

Well ill be at my local bonfire. Best day of the year. Its run by and funded by the local community. Its a full day event with amusements for children and families and a bit of crack. Its been a tradition for many years and enjoyed by thousands and its the warm up for a good days parading the next day. Can't wait.

Dont get me started, they build them in the middle of grass areas in estates, ruining them but it's OK because the council will come round and clear up the sh1t left behind and replant the green areas using my rates to pay for it. Stolen pallets and tyres are the mainstay of the bonfires. Council employees are threatened not to remove them, just imagine how council would react to a private individual illegally burning tyres. Fire service getting attacked when they turn out to protect and cool down nearby properties. Police are used as the usual political football stuck in the middle. Total F@#KWITS I wonder how this country will ever move on

Seen a few on the roads as well

Was over in NI back in 2019, driving out of Belfast up a well known road and there was several large patches of tarmac that were well scorched

Hi, Politics aside, what I was surprised at was the content of red and blue pallets. I was told that they are rental pallets and it's illegal to buy, sell or destroy them, they should be put back into the system to be re-used.

there used to be a fire in Belfast built out of railway sleepers , bottom of Tates Avenue ,, Ive never seen as many sleepers stacked a high , it was a sight to behold , like a huge ,, no a HUGE Jenga set.

The bonfires actually have an historic significance & I don't mind folk having some fun once a year but its getting out of hand again. There needs to be some rules on location & size of the bonfires and they need to be enforced.

Back a few years ago I was at a tyre place in the Maiden City & the boss was telling me that around bonfire season they were plagued with young folk looking for old tyres! One evening he had left a repaired lorry wheel out for the customer to collect. He happened to look out the window and saw two young kids trying to roll the lorry wheel out of the gate!
