I maybe only get my little, 'deposit not rental' Oxy/Aceteline out maybe three or four times a year, so occasionally indispensable.
Has anyone started using propylene rather than acetylene?
I see Adams Gas stock it, and claim 50% cheaper than acetylene, 80% reduction in cylinder changes as a cylinder is just propylene not acetylene disolved in acetone, and is better than oxy propane for cutting.
Then confusingly having pushed all its virtues go on to say:
"Acetylene is the primary fuel for oxy-fuel welding and is the fuel of choice for repair work and general cutting and welding. Acetylene produces the hottest and most concentrated primary flame of all industrial fuel gases. Its calorific value is fairly low, but the portion emitted by the primary flame is very high, about 30%, making acetylene the fuel gas that produces the most heat in the primary flame."
They claim that you just need to change the tip so ??presumably?? you can use acetylene regulators with it.
I'd like to hear some real life experiance if anyone here is using it as it ain't cheap to buy cylinders 'just hoping'

Anyone used Propylene Fuel Gas instead of Acetylene
Morning Chaps. As per title, not wanting to keep acetylene in my domestic garage any more really. BOC won't deliver, I don't like having it in my car even when ratchet strapped down. I would use it more if I was happier with the safety aspects but as it is it really is only an emergency set...

Used Air Liquide oxy - propylene when living in France, and although softer than oxy - acetylene, it isn't much lacking other than for autogenous welding of steel.

Or any fusion welding of steel.
I still use oxy-acetylene - not to weld any more, just to braze. I have tried various air-propane/map and midget oxy-fuel sets with the aim of getting rid of the acetylene but I haven't had much luck. Anything mildly chunky and I'm heating for the rest of the afternoon.
Probably just me.

I had a Hobby account with BOC, I have a Y bottle I think of Argon mix.
My account has been deleted/retired/closed, but I still have the bottle.
I was speaking to them about getting a 5lt oxygen cylinder (works out to about £80 odd pounds, then rental each year of £60 odd), so I opened a new Hobby Account, I mentioned the Argon bottle and he just said, 'Let's leave that as is for now'
The price of the 5lr with Hobby is reasonable but I can get a 10lr through Hobby Weld for £110, that's a £70 deposit and twice the gas.
All this palaver just to repair a dehumidifier!
Although, I've often wanted to heat something hot for expansion and been envious of torch owners, as MAPP doesn't always fit the bill.

A bit of air-propane preheat might help....
I still have oxygen acetylene in the van. Just this week a tractor on the side of the road with no brakes 25 minutes done.
