Not sure if to build a blast cabinet or buy one again as....

Last year i had a 220l SGS blast cabinet. Dont ask why but i sold it not thinking i would need it again. Now i do for the car project when it arrives.

i looked at buying another SGS 220l but now i see a lower priced one looking the same from Switzer. SGS £360 and the Switzer £290

Now if they are the same ???? I would get the Switzer


BUT

I could build one to the size i need for wheels upto 18 inch. Although the wheels on the new car are 15inch, i like to get the biggest i can just incase.

I would build it from 126mm exterior plywood, any thoughts why not to build from plywood. I dont fancy the faff to build it from sheet steel.

i am just beiong lazy here. got ply, quicker and easier to make from lol. I work with sheet metal at work and can get galv sheets aswell cut to size but its when they can do it.

i was thinking with my last setup if i can connect the pot i had to the cabinet. underneath the hopper. thinking it would be better control than the priginal set up or modifiying the hopper witht he flow gauge.

Not wood hacking 101....
I made mine as above, angle iron frame, however I welded the 16 ga sheet metal in.
Easier is not always better.

Yes they look the same thing, generic chinese units - pretty much all identical across resellers even the big ones.
Yes you can build one out of ply - i did mine that way because I didn't have access to a welder when i needed the cabinet
It works fine but you need something to stop the blast media eating the wood, so a piece of steel or ideally something like rubber which will absorb some of the energy out of the media.

If you are building a syphon setup, go the footpedal and mixing valve route - its infinitely superior.

I wouldn't bother blasting wheels though - its hard work for a syphon gun .
For the cost of the time, electricity and effort I'd sooner pay somebody with a road compressor setup to do them.

tell me the difference of bead blasting engine parts or cleaning the crap from one and having the engine re machined both need scrupulously cleaning afterwards
