Number of spanners!

Been tasked with making a house number from old spanners (soon to be x mechanic).

Iv managed to get the shape kind of right but now I'm curious which method I should use to weld it up, it's screaming g tig to keep it neat and tidy, but what rods? And would tig even do it being a miss match of crap metals?

Or should I just mig and spend alot of time fettling.

I use silver solder on the Chrome ones and braze on blacken ones.

Silver solder.

wouldnt waste money on silver solder just braze them

Id mig weld them, plenty of Amps and a bit of a gap for the weld to sink into. Bridge tack them together front and back to stop them distorting
Do them tidy and make a feature of the weld.
or braze them

Just mig them ,,, but , add a couple of bits of tube to the back , and drill holes for mounting from the front , the tube will work as stand offs and make the numbers look better when fixed to the wall .

It's going to be having studs welded to the back as it's going to be getting mounted onto a wooden board..not decided yet if to recess this or as you say have it floating in effect.

His choice for the wood not mine.

I've never had any issues tigging spanners or sockets together with mild rods, even for functional (non safety critical) tools. Clean the surface off and weld them on the back if you're worried, or practice on the spare bits.

I'd be tigging those myself. red tungsten and a15 rods.

I'd only weld them on the back so the welds are not visible, I think they would better that way.

Bottom of the 7 needs to go to the right a bit, as it is it is to far to the left.

I'd just mig them too, but I'd just weld them from the back so no welds are visible.

Postie is going to struggle with that. Our white door has a black number 5 on it and he still puts number 9's post through our door

A second vote for short standoffs.
Have them sloping down away from the wall to channel water away.
Also think about rust long term. Rust streaks on walls look awful.
I'd probably get them galved.
