Oil free compressor - opinions

I'm really going to have to stop looking on Ebay. Anyone any idea as to whether these (are/will be) any cop or not? I'm just thinking for basic, general use. Nothing demanding.

Well, it won't be silent, once it's plugged in and working! Like the 8.5kVa genny in our local hardware store, that had "SILENT" in large lettering on the front. Yeah, right!

Can't comment on the specific model, but oil free compressors have advantages in some situations, where rubber seals can become perished by the oil mist produced by compressors reliant on oil. Vibration isolation tables, and pneumatic masts, for example.

Doesn’t seem like a great air output. Think it may struggle to keep up with a lot of tools you may wish to use.

200 quid says it all my old 14cfm comp i built 45 years ago chucks a bit of oil in to the tank but never gets past the filter regulator so if its not supplying in the food industry or a dentists drill cant see the point

I'm trying to get away from the: "old, built like a tank, needs a bit of attention" routine, with some things, these days. Simply functional will do.

Size & noise limitations are my primary concern. Don't need big, nor large airflow. This is to go in a spot where I have to consider the neighbours with noise, so quietest option possible is necessary. Most of the time, it'll probably only end up with a blowgun on it, most likely. I'd just like to have air facilities available again, to a degree.

What’s it actually for most air tools need 90psi that thing kicks out at115 and won’t start again till down to 70 by which time your tools running half speed. Will blow up car tyres etc. fine.

Those compressors look to be Wobl type and do run considerably quieter than a reciprocating piston type. The same type is used in Oxygen Concentrators and most people have them in their living rooms albeit encased in a noise suppressing foam lined case running at a very low pressure which helps with noise.
I used one of the Concentrator compressors with an open hose restricted to 1.5mm as a blow gun for a number of years, just switch on and off as needed it was better than nothing.
I would think the one in the link should run a blow gun and pump tyres up ok. I'm undecided about the claimed 2hp though.

I'd be surprised if their claimed figures weren't fudged a bit.

It's one of those items where I have no desperate need of one, but occasionally miss having a bit of air on tap. I'd probably site it in the flat, & run a hose down to the workshop, hence the low noise requirement. Knowing me, I'll probably only use it once per year. I do have a little direct drive, that I can use outside if I need air, but I wouldn't want to run that one in the flat.

Bit of oil in the tank is a good thing. It will sink to the bottom and help stop tank rusting. In fact I'm wondering how to add a small amount oil to a compressor that doesn't chuck oil into the tank for such protection !

Standard compressor oil has a lower density than water, so will float on top.

Some of the more esoteric oils e.g. PFPE (Perfluorinated polyether) have densities approaching 2, more often used for oxygen service applications, and aggressive chemicals.

@MattF, I saw your post and thought I'd let you know about this:

I replaced my 24 liter FIAC compressor with one of these - a 10 Bar Scheppach HC24V - last year as it takes up less space in the van.
It is oil free and relatively easy to carry. It is a bit less powerful at 2 HP than the FIAC which was 2.5 HP, but not as noisy or as heavy. I'm not running any air tools off of it, I mainly just use it for cleaning off lime mortar dust from the stone walls in the old farmhouse I'm renovating and in that regard it suits my needs adequately.
