oil leak on compressor

got some cheap compressors tanks ok but the casing is cracked on them and they leak oil out and they made out of monkey metal (like cast it snaps but cant be welded) tried araldite but not worked any ideas on how to fix cheers

They must be degreased thoroughly before you can use any adhesives &c. I suspect oil will soak into the metal.

have tried that but was an old tube may get some new and try again been told to try no nails not sure if that will work and no it not under pressure cheers

i used the one from halfords on a crack in a gearbox case and even after head to head with a truck it was still oil tight! use nail varnish remover or acertone to clean it well

so there is hope then as i got four of them but one is for extra tank for my 24l comp which is fine will have a go tomorrow and take it slow cheers

chemical metal is a complete waste of time with oil, you degrease it burn it rough it up, put the gook on, it holds, oil is there to lubricate, lubrication means moving parts, which mean oil will get hotish, oil thins gets into pour, 4 weeks later you see your plaster of chemical metal on the ground. take about pi**ing into the wind. you can tune a piano but ya cant tuna fish

gearbox oil is slimy heavy stuff, cant get into thight spaces, thats only my opinion tho

would it be possible to make a plate to cover the crack use a gasket and bolt it onto the pump

bolt a plate on it wont work as it crack in casing have applied stuff to inside will take some pics and upload if can figure it out so show the problem have used airline oil in it but leaked as soon as started so heat not problem then cheers for advice so far will let u know what works if any

Drill each end of the crack to stop it spreading.

The oil in a compressor is more like monograde engine oil than gear oil and it will thin down.

sorry if i rambling on right start again Bolting a plate on wont work as odd shape to work with and had put araldite on to fix leak but not worked as crack opens up again going to try drilling hole in and put nut and bolt with large washers on to stop it moving then put fiberglass on to seal it and see if that works cheers for all the ideas so far

can you post a picture of the cracked area it may help with suggestions
dont forget that compressing air creates quite a bit of heat so if you dont have something strong as it heats up and expands the crack will just open up especially with some sort of glue i would think it would have to be a mechanical fix or welded
