i would definatly make a plate for the inside of the one you have drilled it would be simple and would work

i have 7 compressors at pres a half hp no storage a cosmo 10L 1.5 hp works fine but no cut out switch on it and it got slight leak dont hold air after u switch off then got a 25L 1,5hp works fine but wanted more air storage been on ebay but only tanks on own were over 200L and were expensive and would kill my poor little thing so i got 4 50L comp for £125 tanks ok but having fun taking apart and fixing if get them all working (3 only as 1 motor casing totally fubared ) will keep one sell 2 and use last one as extra storage well thats the plan lol

how big a plate would u suggest as just been drilling and bolting got to clean out before i gook it good style

also drilled top and put a long bolt in to pull it up and had to fill extra holes with bolts got a few extra vent holes oops

just make a sensible sized plate that covers the crack well make a cardbord gasket and use some sort of oil resistant sealant to make sure of no leaks ive used this method before and it lasted years infact it never failed at all

Ah the penny drops i can see the light (was that arc eye) can get sheets of gasket u cut to your own size damm shops shut will have to wait till morn hic hic will try it should work then cheers this is my first post as well

got the gasket cut the plates and gook put it all together put oil in then had to take apart one leak took apart again it now got oil in again if it not leaking in morning will start it up so fingers crossed cheers for all your help guys only got two more to go then the last one will be a BITCH as it well smashed

not going to well it not leaked overnight but it started to leak in the morning so it back to drawing board giong to use fiberglass on one of other compressors and see if that anybetter and then will clean it out and start again

will do when camera behaves took pics but wont upload got two compressors fixed using fibreglass they doing ok so far took all plates off for now will get pics uploaded and see if u have any ideas it was working on 90% of crack

Here are the pics u wanted good news is got two working using fibreglass one i patched with plates nearly worked hope u can see where i went wrong also got pics of the smashed up one any ideas how to fix that one was giong to drill it and plate in parts to hols together then use fiberglass to fully seal it and use it on outside to add strength cheers for help

i would have made a plate the size of the red section in the picture plus one for the outside and would have made it of a decent thickness so as not to distort i would have also used a silicone sealant as well as a gasket both sides
you could even ake a plate to cover the complete base that maybe an idea for the one in bits

Round at the bike shop they have some two part epoxy which is used to seal crank cases. Blow lamp to get the crack clean then let it cool and seal it. It never fails. The broken casing looks like pressure moulded aluminium so it would probably tig weld. I had a ZX9 sump done by an expert and it sealed perfectly.

only got a mig welder not a tig one (YET) sounds like a good idea but need to practice first cheers for idea

a few ideas to think about the one u put the red dia on has 3 cracks in it will clean it all up and get to cutting some plates had a bit of practice so far fiberglass is ok on the cracks but the smashed one will need plates for strength be a few days as got to work this week will let u know how i go on cheers
