i would definatly make a plate for the inside of the one you have drilled it would be simple and would work

just make a sensible sized plate that covers the crack well make a cardbord gasket and use some sort of oil resistant sealant to make sure of no leaks ive used this method before and it lasted years infact it never failed at all

Round at the bike shop they have some two part epoxy which is used to seal crank cases. Blow lamp to get the crack clean then let it cool and seal it. It never fails. The broken casing looks like pressure moulded aluminium so it would probably tig weld. I had a ZX9 sump done by an expert and it sealed perfectly.
i would have made a plate the size of the red section in the picture plus one for the outside and would have made it of a decent thickness so as not to distort i would have also used a silicone sealant as well as a gasket both sides
you could even ake a plate to cover the complete base that maybe an idea for the one in bits
