old record rebate plane

found an old rusty plane in some rubbish 40 years ago and never bothered with it . I did sharpen the blade and used it last year once. having made a chisel sharpening jig I sharpened the blade on it and it works well . a 5 minute sand blast in cabinet cleaned it up fine a coat of black metal paint and ran the base and sides over the belt sander to shine them up and its as good as new. a couple of hours sunday afternoon project

yep I cleaned and sharpened 3 standard planes up I have as well . not much point in having tools that need sharpening when you want to use them on the day . I even remade the broken flex on my kango hammer ready for work tomorrow as it was going on and off

Handy planes.
Mine lives in the van. Especialy as can move the blade right to the nose for tight access.

When I did one of those planes in the past.
After I painted the frame, to clean up the working faces. I used a sheet of glass and grinding paste. Working in straight lines I ended up with crisp edges to the recessed parts. Plus a nice matt grey finish on the metal.

look on ebay or google kango spares .one company does a few spare parts for them . getting thin on the ground

As far as i know direct from kango. Had to open an account as local place i use for most parts cant get parts any cheaper/faster.
When i get a chance (might be a few weeks, am flat out at the moment) i will try and dig out my logon details and see what i can find.

Think i must be going mad, just had a throught its hilti not kango i have an account with.
I keep an eye out for dead kango's for my heavy breaker.

no guides with it . I probably will never use it again . it was something just to do probably just get sold for peanuts if I snuff it

Send it my way. My hand planes see as much use as my planer.
Sold my combination plane as I never used it but the rebate plane sees action reguarly.

yes I know but I haven't any blue paint just a gallon of black and a load of hammerite got for next to nothing so that's the governing factor . blue would have been nice though

I know a lot don’t but I like Hammerite actually, it comes up to a nice colour as it hardens over a few months.
