I know a lot don’t but I like Hammerite actually, it comes up to a nice colour as it hardens over a few months.

all my machines and home made stuff sprayed with hammerite just my 2 lathes and miller painted grey I wouldn't alter. as long as there not rusty and easy to clean not really bothered on colours

Your post reminded me that I have a Record 050 combination plane somewhere. It's in good condition but unfortunately it didn't come with any cutters.
