Forest of Dean coal isn’t to be banned as long as it’s sold locally. Anyone know why?
I’m not some saddo, I was checking if coal is to be banned here so we can stay ahead of Jimmy Crankie and start getting it in for next winter!!
I agree but im keeping away from that enviroment fine for a smoking chimney its not worth getting caught with thatMaking gas and electric so expensive we cant turn the heating on..now making it illegal to keep warm by burning coal the lowlife pigs want us all dead i am telling you because they don't have our pension pots. Well this winter i will be burning anything from a wellie to the interior of a scrap car before my wife and i go cold..enough is enough now, the daily shafting is going to stop in roofmans castle forthwith
So you wait till that’s burnt ( getting cold) then restack for another three and a half hour?I agree but im keeping away from that enviroment fine for a smoking chimney its not worth getting caught with that
I suspected the prices was going up and i was also looking for a stove that burns very little wood but gives loads of heat output
an open fire dosnt give that and neither does a normal stove yes you can slow the burn down but it starts giving smoke issues if set on simmer
the secondary stoves also can chew through wood rather well
ive also built a rocket stove within a normal stove and for 3, 1/2hrs worth of heat for softwood i can assure you i like it enough but a warning must be given they are over hot and can be dangerous as the heat output is very high with them
this stove was brand new and has fire brick as the top of those 3x2
this is the wood i used and how i built it within a normal stove

that lot of wood gave me 3, 1/2 worth of heat within a very large room
What temperature is your flue with that setup, I’ve a temp gauge on mine and like to keep it at the top end of the normal range which is around 300 degrees CI agree but im keeping away from that enviroment fine for a smoking chimney its not worth getting caught with that

There is a lot to itWe currently have an open fire in the main living room. Does anyone know how much less fuel a proper stove would burn to heat the same room?
My stove is 85% efficient, an open fire is in the region of 25% in the ballparkWe currently have an open fire in the main living room. Does anyone know how much less fuel a proper stove would burn to heat the same room?

My mother had an open fire and now has a stove and uses a decent amount of fuel. I think that’s because her husband bough one that’s too big but looked good and consequently it’s like stoking the flying Scotsman!
As above, there’s a lot to it, that info thing talks about output vs volume.
The guy who drew it is knowledgeable and always happy to chat.

while an open fire is 30% efficient at best. A wood burning stove is likely to be better than 65% efficient. We currently have an open fire in the main living room. Does anyone know how much less fuel a proper stove would burn to heat the same room?
I didnt have a test gun with me when i lit that stove twiceWhat temperature is your flue with that setup, I’ve a temp gauge on mine and like to keep it at the top end of the normal range which is around 300 degrees C
that would be what would happen but its just way too warm to do a restack and fire again instead id just probably just throw a few odd pieces in itSo you wait till that’s burnt ( getting cold) then restack for another three and a half hour?

The Coal Industry Nationalisation Act 1946 exempted the Forest of Dean because of its unique form of ownership and history, allowing the unique privilege to continue intact.
