Well...
I removed the batteries and went to get replacements but stopped at the price - it was getting close to what the mask itself cost! Thanks Sainsbury's, I can expect to pay a little extra for walking into a shop but not that many times more so rather than bending over decided I could wait to get them from eBay.

Before getting round to ordering (been quite busy) I thought I'd test them and see if it was one dodgy one or something, and both tested fine. Put them back in the helmet and no battery low indicator and it's working again.
Poor connection?

Anyway, I'm glad it's working - after using it even for just a few days - probably not more than 10/15 hours welding time - it's now something I never want to be without. Lovely piece of kit.

Perhaps the battery's were just not quite inserted properly first time around. Keep a watchful eye on it. All these helmet complaints recently I hope my Viking behaves its self as its been as good as gold so far.

Glad to hear it, Bill... hopefully that's the end of any hassle.

Well I'm overjoyed.

The battery died in my VegaView. Just wonderful, I had to revert back to the other helmet, then when that got too uncomfortable (must say the Optrel is nice) it was down to using the fixed handheld again...

hay man, i recently had the exact same problem with my viking helmet. and talked to lincoln and they said the solar panel could be soothing wrong with, died within 1-2 weeks.
and now i got a new one, also got told that batteries should last u for minimum of 6 months with regualar use, so go back with it and im sure ur gonna get yourself a new helmet.
live in norway and no store have even imported the optrel 2.5 yet, so had to go with what i felt was second choice .

Well fingers crossed it's remained working with no further problem on the original batteries.

And I have to say, I really love it, this helmet is fantastic.
I would like to use the cheap helmet for the filthy in the mud and excrement jobs, but I like this one so much I won't weld without it now! It's now used everywhere.

Loving it.

I've just replaced the cover lens as it was so badly scratched it was a little close to opaque. Unfortunately most of the places I put it down aren't flat and smooth so they're never going to last that long.

I'm happy with it comfort wise and the picture is crystal clear. I've had no more bother with it, it just works. Even on minimum sensitivity bright sunlight can set it off which is annoying but I can't really complain.

Blimey, having looked at my last post it's been five months now since I got it. And if anything happened to it I would buy a replacement without hesitation.
