There's quite a bit of discussion on the web regarding dogs and the potential of eye damage due to exposure to the electric arc.
I could only find one entry from a licensed vet who claimed: "Yes - they can get welders eye / flash as well, which is damage is to the corneal epithelium from this type of light exposure. It can also cause secondary uveitis."
Uveitis is inflammation of the middle layer of the eye, called the uvea or uveal tract. It can cause eye pain and changes to your vision. Most cases get better with treatment – usually steroid medication. But sometimes uveitis can lead to further eye problems such as glaucoma and cataracts.
Any Australians able to give a bit of background to the saying: "blind as a welder's dog"?
