Overpriced grease gun

I have zero luck with grease guns. They never seem to couple to what i want them to grease, or get air locks, or come undone - theyre just a constant disappointment.

For some years (literally) i have had an ebay saved search for "THK MG70" as my linear stuff's datasheet says thats the tool to use, but theyre GBP 150 plus to buy.


Today my pre-set auction bid "won" one for GBP 2.20!

So -

a) will it arrive, i wonder, and,
b) if it does, will all my dreams be answered by a £150 grease gun?

The commercial pneumatic grease guns are not that dear and use the big tubs of grease.Works out much cheaper without the grief of running out/keep swapping cartridges.

I have one from where I worked years ago, we used to use them on screen printers for the surface mount electronics industry - they had expensive linear guide rails so as you say they seem to go with the territory.

They are good quality gear but from what I saw they don’t do anything a “normal” grease gun can’t do Their big benefit seemed to be they were much smaller so were easier to squeeze into places, some of the greasing points on the screen printers were pretty inaccessible…

I've had my grease gun for prob 40 years Tecalamit.....
Plus some one rescued a bucket grease gun from a skip thats just brill....another well known make....

now ur almost up and running by a decent end for the hose...no idea where tho....lol....

Modern grease gun connectors are rubbish. 30 years ago they would last for ages but now I buy 10 at a time. Even new ones don't seal unless you have it perfectly aligned with the nipple

I've got a laser grease gun bought in a hurry (snapped the end of the last one by mistake) the secret is to only put the tube on by 2 turns then release the plunger.
Then screw fully together.

Never airlocks this way.


Regards to fittings you can adjust the jaws on the connector

You also get a "feel" for when the last pump indicates an empty cartridge,if you stop there and then the thing wont be air locked to death, keep pumping and it can be a nightmare to purge.

Im tempted by these and feed back from many folk I know who use them is good. But a lot of dosh compared to the man o matic messy versions.

Mine gets used to refill central lube takes 5 tubes from empty, I set it running and get other jobs completed. Uses 2bars on a 4ah battery which blew my mind pumping ep2. Can service 2 jobs and the additional grease points on one charge.

It also bulk fills really well from a 12.5kg tub

Nothing wrong with manual grease guns and even the cheap ones last years, the only reason we use pneumatic or cordless is we are pumping grease into machines to lube and drive out crud from the bushes, we can easily use a cartridge or two greasing a machine. If it was just one pump per grease nipple a manual grease gun is more than adequate.

They are good guns easy to use and I feel the pulse action helps free a partly stuck nipple. The end is better than some but still leaks past after a few cartridges and what a mess changing cartridges you'll get grease everywhere, mine even spat half it's contents out sitting in the drawer.

If you want to keep clean then the only option imho is the lube shuttle with the screw in cartridges.

Can't say I've noticed that, but I just suck grease out of a keg

Dig mine out of the garage to see if it was the same, looks identical even down to the accessories that come with it (they had never been out of the packet). Looks like it’s made by Yamada in Japan.

I think half the issues with grease guns and nipple attachments is people not actually knowing how to use them, adjust them, bleed them.

Plus leaving grease under pressure causes it to separate out, so when you next come to use it, it simply doesn't work.
