Overpriced grease gun

A little trick I learned offshore was to put a piece of thin rag over the grease nipple before you press the grease gun over it. For some reason it helps grip and seal when you have a 'reluctant nipple'.

For my bike I bought a miniature grease gun that has a sharp point on the end, and goes inside the average nipple rather than over it. I've drilled 1.5 mm holes into the pivots of my centre stand and gear lever so I can put the occasional shot in without stripping it all down.

Nothing wrong with manual grease guns and even the cheap ones last years, the only reason we use pneumatic or cordless is we are pumping grease into machines to lube and drive out crud from the bushes, we can easily use a cartridge or two greasing a machine. If it was just one pump per grease nipple a manual grease gun is more than adequate.

Your machines are bigger than mine though. I cant afford more than 1 cartridges a time.

Where my eldest works they just got a brand new JCB Loadall, he put three cartridges into it and it had only done a couple of hours. Clearly had not been PDId. All three of theirs run continuously so they needed it but I said I would have told them to come and collect the damn thing and sort it out. It was £80K+

Even if it had been £5k it should have been greased.

I think modern greases have a lot to answer for too, they are sticky and clingy that they can be a nightmare. My dad gave me a tube of some special long life grease used on railway equipment, I took it out within minutes, it just would not flow right and god forbid you got some on your clothes

Just different grades, most common is ep2 though it can be thicker or thinner

I agree, but that would make it 90k and with lots of extra little pipes to get bashed and broken.
