Last year I completely stripped and serviced my little Oxford RT110, taking it completely apart, cleaning and painting the casing (top and bottom), filtering the oil and scraping out the sludge from the bottom. Its a very simple system inside - the trickiest bit was putting the current selector armature back in as it has a large spring that can go 'boing' and hop off to the other side of the workshop!

As WA says, lift the top off for a while to let the oil drip off the components back into the sump. I left this for a few days.

Then turn the entire top assembly over so that it is sitting on the handles. Either that or use some wooden blocks to support it. I'm sure the RT110 is assembled this way up. Then you have full 360 degree access to the internals. I used up plenty of cotton rags just wiping down.

I did find plenty of dark brown sludge at the bottom of the tank. After scooping out most of the oil and filtering through muslin cloth into clean buckets I scraped out the bottom with a narrow scraper. It is mostly rust - over the years the thermal cycling slowly sucks in moisture from the atmosphere, and attacks the inside of the top panel. Any rust particles drop down and sink to the bottom, together with any droplets of water, to make the brown rusty sludge.

After cleaning I used Hammerite green to repaint the case (to match the trolley I made for it). The indicator plate is easy to remove and refit (4 rivets on the RT110). Then put back together, making sure all the electrical and mechanical (in some cases one and the same) fixings are secure.

All in all, other than the oil it was quite easy to work on. Although not as easy as my Ferrous 110A air-cooled that also got the rebuild treatment, but thats a story for another day.

I have replaced the wheels for a rubber type, was a quick job so just welded them on. Using the actual welder (just disconnect the earth wire in the plug,hehe)

Made transport a 100 times easier!

Im glad you got a bargain, though you could have had mine for the asking, along with 25 foot of leads. Been trying to get rid for a while. Just taking up space.
ps: if you think yours is heavy then let me tell you that 3 of us couldnt lift mine!
