Oxy Acetylene Kit

I am looking for small CHEAP kit for doing some brazing and possible cutting for occasional use. I want it for doing jobs like cutting bolts etc, heating 2-5mm metal for bending and things like brazing washers onto 3mm sheet steel.

I don't really want to get into the expensive disposables but neither do I want to be into cylinder rental.

Any suggestions?

im sorry but i think what your needing does not exist!

Steer clear of second hand gear as it will be very out of date and most likely bodged together.

you can save a bit by using propane as your fuel gas and Hobby weld type oxygen bottle there is a deposit on the bottle but after than no rental. or if you really want acetylene then do those as well but the deposit is about £160

Would they be any good for the brazing element?

What about a propane only kit? The main sort of thing I am looking at is brazing stell parts together. For example, as I mentioned above I want to braze some 2mm washers onto a 3mm steel sheet. Could I do this one of the propane only kits? I have plenty of propane kicking around.

Non rental Acetylene can be had, http://albeegascylinders.com/ PWP in Bedford stock it, might be a nearer stockist to you?

I'll be getting a cylinder when my boc one is empty, just for a little welding here and there. Everything else I use oxy-propane for now..

What about an oxy propane torch? I have O2 at 230bar in bulk and propane in a plethora of sizes. So no additional cylinder costs. Would this do what I want?

What sort of flow rate would I need to provide the O2 at?

As my subjection . Oxy propane is fine for cutting heating etc but not gas welding as flame chemistry is wrong

If you could find another means of cutting, mapp gas and a decent torch will do all your heating and brazing.

Not much to learn. I have used Oxy/Butane for silver solder and brazing for years. Just about to switch to oxy/propane for cutting/heating, so need a torch from WeldEquip with propane nozzle. For the brazing I have used an old Saffire torch. Must be 50+yrs old or more as I got it from my father's business.

Also, in the late 60s, we used oxy/hydrogen for heating/cutting.
Anybody else used it? Any comments?

I think it was cheaper than acetylene.

I did look at that but it seemed very expensive in terms of gas purchase?

The propane, oxy/propane solutions seemed to give a better balance as I able to use the gas I already have. I have to pay cylinder rental for O2 already and having a propane. Space heater, BBQ, and even the camper van has propane cooking I have my own Calor depot of cylinders!!

Or am I missing something?

Nope.
The local scrappy uses oxy/propane for all it's cutting.

I have just purchased an oxy propane setup - got a 47KG cylinder from the local supplier and my Victor kit with a propane reg and hose instead of acetylene.
