Many years ago I welded up an Austin Maxi gearbox that had hit an object in the road. Did it with OA as we didn't have Tig. Worked out well and was in use for years afterwards. Looking back it would have been a nightmare with Tig.There are some instances when TIG won't do what OA will do. I have come access old cast aluminium motorcycle engines that have been successfully OA welded but TIG just won't work because the impurities play havoc with the arc
@Memmeddu I can definitely say that gas welding 1.6mm ally sheet is faster than Tig. It has to be to stop it running on the floor!
