Paint strip / Dip tank for wheels

Just an update, MC works great but having problems with some coatings, mainly the under coat/primer i think its powdercoated ? or epoxy paint not 100% sure but doesn't even touch it and a paint to blast, is this a job for atlas t ?

Could very well be, if you do Atlas-T ask the supplier exactly how to use it, I believe it contains hydrofluoric acid, and that it works by lifting the paint along with some of the substrate, it's very nasty stuff.

We use a meth choride / hydrofluoric mix, yeah it shifts all powders from alloy quick. Few things though, you need to get rid of the waste properly or the environment agency will go mad. You don't even want to know how much it cost's to dispose of acid contaminated waste!

If you get splashed by it the burns are very nasty, needs a washing off fast and special jelly putting on. If it's a big splash it's a trip to the hospital for more jelly and a blood test. Proper PPE is a must, I hate the stuff and you will get burnt.

is HDPE Polypropylene container ok with atlas t and will i need to have layer of water on top like the MC ?

I'd ask the supplier to be sure. A guy I know has it in an old cold water cistern which I think is polypropylene. He keeps a lid on it rather than using water, I think it may be soluble.

I don't know about HDPE, we use stainless. No water on top as that will draw out the methanol and HF acid into that layer. Be very careful where you put the tank as the fumes corrode everything metal in the area. You will need a mask suitable for acid vapours and the calcium jelly before you start. It's quite hard finding PPE such as aprons and gloves that don't get eaten by HF acid in a short while.

Also most importantly what are you doing with the items after dipping, alloy is porous and soak's up the acid. If you don't degas them in a oven and instead just wet paint it tends peal off later on, best not to leave them in overnight or you end up with some heavy pitting.

chances are if u just soften the paint and try blasting it the grit beds in to paint and can make the job harder

The cost of having wheels proffesionally stripped & powdercoating by several companies in the Birmingham area is £50.00 + vat, this inc taking tyres off and refitting/balancing.
I love doing everything I can myself, however this one area I can't compete at.

How much HF acid you will add in a 50l meth chloride tank?i got a stainless steel tank with plain methylene but doesnt seem to work on vauxhall alloys....the primer its untouchable

Hi there,i hace a oven for 4 wheels to fit in,a stainless steel drum for stripping a cabinet for sandblast ,compressor and a powder coating unit but no place where to put all this...im lookig for someone to join me and make some money together...

Would a wheelie bin suit? (they were taking back the nice big ones in Bristol and replacing with much smaller due to providing recycling tubs.
